Hatching chick

Cross beak can be genetic or from an accident while the bird is young. This is my cockerel with cross beak, he isn't allowed to breed and he's a bit "off":

I'd give hatching eggs yourself a go, it's really fun and educational and there are some amazing threads on here to help. She might not go broody again this year but once a hen has been broody, it's likely she'll brood again
Bless him! Does it hinder him in any way?

She’s constantly broody! Stops for a week then starts again which is why I gave up and bought her some eggs but I will try myself next time! Thanks for all of your help.

Sorry it didn't make it . Don't get eggs from the same source. To big a gamble . Been there done that. Staying broody . Those are the worst kind. Honestly I would kick her out of the hen house for a while . But winter may stop her from being broody . If she were to lay all the eggs she sets then she might do better . It's really a good ideal to candle eggs at set to check for cracks and look for eggs that have already started to develop . Broody's can be great or a real pain. If they are broody they aren't laying and not on eggs then your feeding them for nothing . If this continued I would dump the hen .J/S

He still does everything a normal chicken would do, though he's never interested in the girls he's with, I only feed him chick crumbles and I have to clean his bottom beak and trim it every few days because it's like a little spoon! He's so friendly and such a character, I couldn't bare to part with him.

Gosh I'd love a hen like that, I had a pullet go broody three times but that was it.
And you're welcome :)

Sorry, I wanted to introduce a new thread but cannot figure out how to. Since I'm onto the next step, perhaps someone in the know could answer. The latest I've ever started chicks before was the beginning of August and they were able to go out within a month.
Now I've started some Sept 15, and they are getting larger and have feathered wings and feathers coming in on their chests and body. They are in the unheated garage under a heat lamp. When do you think they could go outside into their own coop? We're in PA and it is getting or will be getting colder quickly.
I thought if I started turning off the lamp in the afternoons then expanded the times until overnight then after several days without a lamp they could go out.
Any suggestions on putting them out or how to start a new thread would be appreciated.

I definitely won’t be getting eggs from the same place again. Unfortunately I only have females otherwise I would’ve let her sit on her own. I understand why getting rid of her would make sense but as I see my girls as pets I wouldn’t want to do that.

You can click on forums, and you'll see subjects like hatching and raising chicks, you go on there and can start a new thread. If you think they can handle the outside then make sure their coop has no drafts and you could put in a huddle box for them

Chick may have had cross beak.....or jaw misalignment was from being stepped on.
All broodies are not great mothers.
