I had 3 White Leghorn hens, which I got as chicks. My wife & I handled them a great deal, while they were growing up. They were very tame, not flighty & we could pick them up at will, with no fighting. When we gave them some treats, they would fly up to our extended arm to receive them...
Recently, I posted this problem in the regular forum. However, I still have no answer for this life threatening problem. Click on the link to that post for photos & prior info...
Egg binding is possible. Read the following article. (Click on the link) to get info on it & what to do

My wife & I have been having similar problems with our 11 month Buff Orphanton. This evening, I found her sickly, stressed & walking like a penquin. She had been in & out of the nest for most of the day. When out of the nest, she kept squatting & trying to poop. It was obvious that she had a...
My 8 chickens go crazy over frozen english peas, which are also called green peas. They end up all over me. I microwave about a dozen per chicken until thawed & barely warm. A lot cheaper than commercial treats & are better for them. Also, mine love small balled up pieces of whole wheat bread.
No disturbances that I know of. We live out of town & everything has been about the same. The same 7 hens, plus a rooster, were raised together & none have been added. She is pretty far up the pecking order & she is not picked on by others.
As stated above, I did change their feed from...
My Buff is 11 months old & appears very healthy. She started laying at 6 months &, until about 3 weeks ago, was laying perfectly normal eggs, but they were on the small side. The first egg in the group of 11 (shown in photo) was what she laid for 4 months. Then, all of a sudden, she started...
Well no replies to give advice, so I took my pullet to a nearby Vet (not an avian Vet) who has a lot of knowledge of chickens & how to treat them. This vet also has her own chickens & treats them. As a matter of fact, with a little calling around, I found 2 regular Vets, who treat chickens...
About 3 months ago, my now 9 month old White Leghorn rooster had a lot of these same little black spots on his comb, but not his wattles. None of my 3 White Leghorn pullets had it. The rooster would freeze like a statue when near my younger pullets & they would peck the spots off. Strange...
Sorry about your Rooster. I know some would say "see an Avian Vet", but there isn't one within 100 miles of me. However, even though I live in a small town, I decided to call around & surprisingly found 2 Vets within 20 miles of me, who treat chickens on a regular basis & are willing to take...
To catch the poop, we got boot mats at Lowes. They are about 4 feet long, about 2 feet wide, with about a 2 inch rim all around. Made out of tough rubber. You probably only need one. Sit it under your roost & it is just right to catch the poop. To clean, just dump all that good fertilizer &...
Here are some photos of the affected areas. The swollen area on the top of the foot, between her toes is not hard, but firm & puffy. The darkened area on the pad, on the bottom of the foot, just below the middle toe, is where we took out the scab & it has healed. That area is now soft. All...
I think there is still hope. I received 4 chicks in mid April of this year. One of them is a barred rock, which looks identical to yours, & she & 2 of the others started laying at about 24 weeks. However, the 4th, which is a Dominique, has still not laid. After my rooster started mating with...
No, I wouldn't say it is squishy nor would I say it is hard. I would describe it as sort of firm with a some swelling, when compared to the areas between other toes. When we take the bandage off, it is a little reddened between the top of the toes on the affected foot. That looks some better...
One week ago, I noticed that one of my 9 mo. old White Leghorn hens has bumblefoot. However, the scab area on the bottom of her foot was small & there was only a small area of swelling between two of her toes & it was somewhat pinkish in color. She was not limping, but I had noticed a couple...
Thank you for your concern & thanks to all who were willing to assist me in resolving this problem. Some problems that seem small can sure throw you for a loop sometimes. I guess my little White Leghorn Rooster & 3 pullets (5 weeks older than these) being so easy with the roosting process...
I think I have discovered the solution to my problem.
Since we were very late in getting a coop built for these chickens, we spent a lot of time with them & they became very tame. (Well, spoiled might be more accurate). I began to notice that sometimes, when I went to lock their coop, I heard...
The doorway to the coop is 2 feet from the roost. The roost is 2 inches short of 4 feet, which gives 11.5 inches space to each. This gives them plenty of room to spread out. The roost is about one foot high. To the right is a little archway, with 2 good sized nests behind it.
