Fellow poultry enthusiasts,
Jack the Knife here and I have been away from the forum for a long spell.
Four years ago I posted the picture of my official 'Show Coop' and it was well received.
Thank you...♪
When I get my next disability check I can order the nylon netting for the top...
Fellow poultry enthusiasts,
Here's a new one,
I cut a 55 gallon barrel off at about 1/3rd height,
with a chop saw blade in a skill saw.
Smooth the edges with a file.
Turn it over and set the feed bowl on it.
The poultry have room to stand on the barrel, 'all around' the feed bowl,
and it...
DallasChickyMamma,
Hi, I am down here in south Dallas county.
Right in between IH35 & IH45, about a couple of miles from the Ellis county line.
{South of Lancaster along the creek}
Just wanted to say hi, and good luck with your poultry.
I don't get out much but stay home nearly...
FF,
Howdy, I am building coops too.
Check out my 'Show Coop' on the last page of my web site.

Thank you ChickenToes

And 'Toes', what kind of hound is that?
A beautiful critter it is.
Thank again...

Fellow Poultry Enthusiasts,
I have read that cedar wood and cedar nest boxes
are bad for poultry because of the oils in the wood.
What about having a poultry coop and run surrounded by cedar trees,
With no cedar used in coop or nesting boxes?
Thank you...
Intheswamp...
Howdy, coon are almighty viscous and can eat through anything.
But... I am a hunter a trapper and have two fine coon hounds.
Now I like raising poultry and I don't hate coon...
But in one respect, I raise poultry to attract coon to my place for my hounds ...
Intheswamp...
Howdy, I am in 'North Texas'.
As far as the front and right side of the 'coop',
I planned to hang removeable partitions.
Wired to the frame and capable of going up in the winter
and storing them in the barn in the summer.
I had left it open for 'This' picture but never...
Intheswamp,
Sorry, they take a long time to download here too.
But once downloaded they 'open right up' next time you look at them.
I live on disability and it has taken 3 years to build the 'Show Coop"
And it isn't finished yet. It needs nylon netting for the top,
and 10 spot welds...

Fellow poultry enthusiasts,
Try this one, 'a new picture 'host''.
I have been trying to get large full page pictures of the 'Show coop'
to post, but all to no avail. And I get my shoulder operated on soon
so the breeder coops will be on hold till the...
clascesse88,
I have hatched '131 chickens' from a Rooster and 4 hens, in one pen.
Now for 'Rhode Island Reds' I am building separate breeder coops
for each of 4 Roosters with 5-6 hens each.
Same for my barnvelder Rooster and the Bantums.
A Rooster can handle as many as 10 hens
but 7 is...
HEChicken,
I know where Tasmania is, I have a 'home brewing' friend down there.
And when I met him, {old Dibby33} I said:
So your in Tasmania, I have an internet friend from near there,
Kiwi's her name she's from New Zealand.
Small world ain't it?
Dibby33 replied:
New Zealand...
Huntsman,
I posted the 'Show Coop' with the picture itself and not just the URL.
The nylon top isn't on yet but that will be crowning touch.
So your in South Africa,
I have a 'home brewing' friend from Tasmania!
Small world...

Huntsman Dude,
Howdy,
Yes, 'H.E. Chicken' is right,
in that, what state y'all are in?
is the question.
Now, I live in Texas which doesn't get too cold,
'for too long anyway'.
And other than making sure your poultry can get 'outta the rain'
and...
Fellow Poultry Enthusiast's,
I have a friend from 1959,
{the fourth grade}
who is the manager of the 'Aggie Feed Store'.
Randy deals poultry every day and 'he knows every thing'.
Randy says 'dirt, dirt, dirt' should be the flooring for poultry
because they pick up little...
RareRoo,
I raise O.E.G. Bantums in cages but only because the breeder coops
which will be 8' x 10' and 6' tall are not done.
My friend from 1959 {the fourth grade}
who is the manager of the Aggie Feed Store
says: "poultry need to be in the dirt".
It is better for their health as they...

Poultry people,
Well said
I look at the water jug in with my poultry and think:
Would I drink that?
And if not I grab a clean 'gallon bleach jug with a side head hole in it'
and give the poultry a clean water jug.
I keep a bunch of them in a round wire 'barrel' tied to a tree...
Jill,
Yes, the sides are still open because my birds developed 'white' on them.
One hen one day, had a small white spot on a wing feather.
Next thing I knew after trying to breed the white spot out of them,
they were coming out with 'spray painted faces',
or polka dots everywhere!
Rather...
chickeydee and DragonFeathers,
Good evening y'all,
the configuration seen in the picture is 'the summertime set up'.
Both walls {shown} are permanent.
The sides 'shown open' are removable walls for adding on however the weather dictates.
I can put them back on with bailing wire by...
