Hi... new chick mom here. I have 6 8 week old chicks. My new coop was just completed (yeah!) so they received an eviction notice from the brooder and have been moved to the coop.
We have been having great spring weather but are expecting a late spring storm with snow and below freezing...
I have a brooder plate and a secondary heat lamp source with a 100w heat lamp. They also have plenty of room
To get away if they become to warm. I was worried about fire and set up a metal ladder to hold the lamp, next to brooder directed in a corner. I also used wire to secure the lamp as...
Thank you! Would it been ok to get them out of the garage and into the coop as long as I have the brooder heater for the little one? It’s very built up. No drafts etc. Seems very similar to having them in the garage.
I have a raised brooder plate that the littlest stay under and a 100w heat lamp that keeps a small area of the brooder at 75 degrees. The rest of the brooder is not heated. We live in Nevada and the garage stays at about 60, with snow in the forecast this weekend.
I have 6 chicks that are 4 weeks old. One of my chicks is definitely a “slow” grower. She is not much bigger then when we got her and she has just a few pin feathers on her wings. She the happiest, loves to eat and makes sure everyone walks the line.
I have my chicks in the garage with a...
It’s probably the most active and interactive chick. First to the food bowl and water. She seems happy. Just interesting how tiny she is ♥️ Smaller then the polish.
Hi there. I am new to chicks (in the past I would adopt older chickens). I bought 6 chicks, Faverolles, Polish, Brahma and a Cochin, 2 weeks ago. They all seem to be happy and healthy. I have this one girl who is suppose to be a Cochin and she is so tiny. Most of the others have doubled in...
Their new "coop" attached to the run is in the process of being built, (if it ever stops raining). We have the foundation built but for now their temporary coop is inside
This would be their new run we just built. Their coop is on higher ground and dry. We have french drains and unfortunately with the high water table water is just rolling over the top of the ground. The raised floor is in the run about 4 inches off the ground enough for water to drain under it...
Good morning. I live in the Coastal Mountains of California and I am new to chickens, adopting three adult girls in September. After years of drought this year Mother Nature has decided to blesses us with an abondance of rain, LOTS of rain. Two weeks ago our run was a swimming pool because...
I have only had chickens for 1 month so I am no expert! However a few days ago I noticed my chicken, Adele, acting weird. She would lift her leg and shiver. She was stand-offish and quiet. She was drinking lots but something just seems wrong.... then she started losing feathers by the handful...
What do you do for rain? I'm putting a pitched roof on mine because last month we had over 20 inch of rain. I feel as though I have to protect them from the rain??? Maybe I'm crazy lol. I will keep the chainlink as suggested. I have two dogs but they have decided to take on the role of...
I'm a new chicken owner. Was given a chain link dog kennel, old coop and 3 chickens. I had posted earlier that I had a reality check when I went to buy supplies to build a new chicken coop... and had to abandon my plan. I am still at ... but have a few questions and would appreciate advise.
The...
Thank you for the welcome. for the feedback and sorry if I posted in the wrong area. I'll get the hang of this soon :) I spent the day working on building coop 3. lol I am gonna have this carpentry thing down and ready to build a house. I have plans to attach the now larger coop to the chain...
Good morning. I just adopted 3 mature chickens, a chain linked dog run and coop. I have read the MANY threads here and have learned so much. Thank you. The ladies have settled in very well. They came from a home maybe wasn't the healthiest, so they are now happy in their 4 star hotel. I am...
