Honestly when I saw her I just thought something looked slightly different. Looking hard I realized the comb was gone. It just looks like a slight black line where the comb used to be and is not gross at all.
I feel bad for her because I imagine it mustve hurt coming off, but shes acting normal...
No it definitely wasn't frostbite.
Temps have been in the 40s. Im really at a loss, but as long as shes ok I suppose life goes on, although Id like to set my mind at ease as to the cause.
i went out to feed my birds the other day and had to do a doubletake. My barred rock has no comb. The entire thing is completely gone with just s black scab over the spot it occupied. Its not infected and the hen is not acting abnormally so a) will it grow back? B) what are the possible...
Ive been using the mama heating pad method of raising my chicks since February 24th. I love the setup and it has worked wonderfully. I have noticed now that at almost a month old, my chicks arent using the heating cave anymore, but are huddling in the corner or roosting on the roost bar above...
Not to hijack the thread, but Im having the same difficulty with my MHP. I purchased my 6 chicks from Tractor supply on Saturday, but had to special order my non auto off heating pad, which arrived today. Theyve been under a heat lamp since Saturday night.
The brooder is in my basement, and its...
So I went to the feed supply store after getting back from work this evening. I figured i would treat the coop, put new bedding in, and treat the chickens for mites/lice.
When I returned home, Maggie, Angela, and Pearl were all in the coop roosting. Daisy was outside roosting on the run fence. I...
Ill try the lice powder, but Im thinking predator. Ill just lock them in earlier.
The problem with not clipping their wings is that I live in the city, and for a while, unbeknownst to me, the whole flock was out grazing everyday at an apartment complex a few houses down. I was at work, so by...
Lol, trust me, Pearl is far from a bully. Ive sat for 45 minutes to watch after ive put them in and she gets some rough treatment.
I do close it up and there is no way a pred is coming in. I did hear a cat meowing pretty loud tonight. Could a sound of a possible predator scare them?
Ive been...
So Ive been searching the forums and web for some explanations and figured Id post here. A few days ago, my chickens suddenly stopped going into their coop at night to roost.
Exactly a year ago I bought 4 chickens off Craigslist. Angela, Maggie, Nellie, and Cluck. Nellie and Cluck have since...
So I went out to check on the injured pullet and was able to get her to drink. Actually she drank alot. I noticed though that the whole time she kept her right eye closed. Shes still sluggish, wNting to just lay in the corner, twitching.
Is it possible she couldve suffered a stroke? Just...
I dont think shes in shock. Due to the twitching I think its a head/neck issue, but shes fine with me holding and petting her there. I have made her as comfortable as possible in the coop. Shes just "sleeping" in the corner, eyes closed, twitching every 5 seconds. Ive tried giving her water but...
I need some help with an injured bird.
About 3 weeks ago I introduced 2 new 11 week pullets to my flock of 3, following the gradual introduction process. There was the usual pecking order ordeal, but one of the hens, "cluck" was overly aggressive. Ripping out feathers, getting on top of the...
My coop is 18ft sq. When I built it I read that 4sq ft of space should be given per bird in the coop. I built it larger to give more room.
They have a huge run of over 200 sq feet and they free range over the yard.
I have a roosting bar set up that goes across the length of the coop, 5ft long...
I need some help finding a solution to a problem that has started among my chickens. I have 4 hens and 3 of them have singled out 1 to be the lowest on the pecking order. She gets chased from the food until the others have eaten, etc. I know this is normal.
I came out to let them out one...
