I would keep sitting tight and wait a couple more days to see what happens. When you candled the eggs did you see any triangle shadows in the blunt end of the egg?
Im so sorry to hear about the loss of your duckling :hugs
He may have had an infection or an internal issue causing the smell. I would just keep an eye on the others for the next few days, but I'm sure they will be ok.
Its very important to keep her hydrated. I would tube feed her some water or VERY CAREFULLY and slowly drip water into her beak to keep her fluids up. Maybe mix a little honey or electrolytes or nutri-drench into the water if you have it on hand. I have my fingers crossed for you and your little...
I have a Speckled Sussex rooster, and his spots started showing up at about 4 months. The number of speckles usually increases as they get older, so I'm sure yours will have spots before you know it.
That is such a neat idea! Looks pretty funny but I bet they would offer some sort of protection. I do wonder if it would make it easier for hawks to carry them off, and it would possibly make it harder for the chickens to hide from land predator's as well. Very neat idea though!
Not a dumb question at all! :) The red spot that you are referring to is what is called a blood spot or a meat spot. This is completely normal and happens occasionally, especially in new layers and older girls. This sounds kinda gross, but this spot is basically just a little piece of tissue...
