Still hatching! NPIP Certified, 9 Breeds ages 1 day-24 weeks, we ship!

I always order a few males for my breeders so I can choose the best out of them. I'd be willing to sell you one or two of them; or my last hatch of Marans just went into lockdown. I'll have males for sure. Please let me know if you might be interested in any of these. Otherwise, if you'd...

Still hatching! NPIP Certified, 9 Breeds ages 1 day-24 weeks, we ship!

Sorry for the delay in responding; I've been away due to a family medical emergency. Actually this season we have only been hatching eggs from another source as a trial to see how they sold. They did very well and we already have our own flock starting for next season. This is why I've listed...

Keeping chickens in the state of Wisconsin

I had no trouble whatsoever! I'm zoned agricultural. But I'm sympathetic. Several of my customers have been at the forefront of getting ordinances passed in their areas, though. So I've gleaned lot's of info and tips from them.

Chicken Breed Focus - Norwegian Jaerhon

Hi Rebecca, I'm sorry I didn't see you post until just now; I've been very busy getting ready for our sales season. My hens laid extremely well through their first winter, during which they were approximately 8-11 months old at the time. Then they all quite laying in late Oct-early Nov of...

Still hatching! We ship! NPIP certified, 9 Pure Breeds: Blk Australorp, Buff Orpington, Cochin (bl

Hello, Yes, we ship anywhere in the continental U.S. I do have to strongly recommend that number of chicks that you order the started chicks. The day old chicks would not likely survive the trip. Shipping charges are by weight, even with as many as 5 started chicks you should still come...

Chicken Breed Focus - Norwegian Jaerhon

Actually, thinking more on the subject, the reason I developed that theory was because the Barred Rock flock I mentioned was composed of females from one source, and 2 males from a different source. My first hatch from this flock produced 40% affected chicks. I checked my birds right away...

Chicken Breed Focus - Norwegian Jaerhon

This was my initial flock, but that doesn't mean the breeder I purchased them from hadn't in-bred them. I didn't realize that was a potential cause for crooked toe; I'll remember that. Funny thing is, I thought it might be a genetic defect within the breed, since other causes I had come...

    Missing feathers

My barred rocks looked pretty much the same, or worse when molting. It is not unusual for laying to slow or stop during this phase. Hang in there!

Kenosha (WI) needs to get crackin' on a chicken ordinance

I'm really not sure why Kenosha can't seem to get an ordinance allowing chickens. Pretty much every neighboring town or city allows them, including our Illini neighbors to the south. Racine just passed theirs in May of 2015. There are many followers on the "Kenosha backyard chickens" facebook...

Keeping chickens in the state of Wisconsin

I can understand the hesitation. I do have to say though, that I had my NPIP inspection right after the avian flu outbreak got under control here in WI in 2015. My husband and I asked the inspector lots of questions about how they handled the situation. The inspector was seemingly very open...
