I've just checked the liver of the latest one to die, it is blackhead. Does anyone have any ideas how to protect the others. I've moved them, cleaned waterers and feeders. Is there anything I can give them to stop the spread?
I have lost 3 6mth old turkeys in the last 2 weeks. I suspect blackhead, however, I thought that it only affected birds up to 18weeks old. They share outdoor space with chickens and I have now shut this area off.
As soon as the first one died I gave electrolytes to the others.
The last...
When we first built our coop my DH wanted new stuff, I won that debate and when he realised the entire coop cost us a box of screws he was very happy. Not sure the next, bigger coop will be as free though
A friend who is getting some of my chicks told me the other day he has spent $1200 on...
I have a day old chick that cannot stand up, it seems to roll on it's left whenever it tries to. It's in the incubator on it's own as I didn't want the others picking on it. Both legs seem to bend and move fine and it's full of beans. Any ideas?
I never saw their rooster as he was dinner for them. So I can't confirm either way. Having said that Kevina will be a Heinz due to her mother being a production red !
That's good news! It would have been disappointing to have the only chick end up being a male!! I now have 4 more bundles of joy playing soccer with the other eggs in the incubator right now so at least my hatch rate is getting better!!
We got 20 hens from a friend who advised us they shared their coop with a white cockerel. I did a test in my new hovabator and only one hatched. I have nothing to compare it to as my previous 8 hens were rescues and I've never had chicks before.
Any idea if it's a pullet or not and am I going...
Don't know if anyone is still watching this thread. I went into lockdown yesterday. 1st chick hatched at 2pm today when DH was at home. I came home from work just before midnight to find two more, one is a black chick which I wasn't expecting - mind you I don't know what my roo is so it could...
I set 39 2 nights ago - hoping for better luck than my one chick out of my last hatch!! You should check the threads on how to calibrate your hygrometer - it's worth checking before you rely on it.
The one that hatched yesterday morning is bouncing around like a pinball in the bator. I don't seem to be getting any activity from the other eggs every time I think an egg moves it's 'Kevin' as it's been named stumbling into it. The waiting is killing me. Must....be.....patient....
Well one. It hatched this morning early on day 20. No movement from the other eggs - how long is it normally from the 1st to last chick and how long should I wait before removing this one? I'm all discombobulated.
That's a lot of fuzzy butts - I'll be happy if the ones I have left hatch - the waiting is killing me Mind you the DH would probably move in with the dogs if there were that many chicks in the house...
