Review by 'chickenluvin' on item 'Marans'

I really wanted to add dark brown egg layers to my little flock. They are a pretty bird with a fairly even temperament. The first eggs were very dark & they lay quite well. But they didn't have a very long laying spell for a first year chicken. They quit entirely for the winter & are slow to get...

Unusual Wonky Egg Laying Issue ..

Sorry for your loss but you did your best to help your girl. I'll give your advice a try, but I think it's becoming evident that my girl has an issue that may not resolve. It can't hurt to try though. I would sure love to be able to save my sweet girl from a terrible ending. Thanks so much for...

Unusual Wonky Egg Laying Issue ..

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer & very thoughtfully.. Yes, I think I kind of already knew the answer, but really wanted to hear other's thoughts or if this has ever happened in someone else's flock before. I do feel it's unusual & possibly unique, but hoped to hear about...

Unusual Wonky Egg Laying Issue ..

Thanks for your response.. I've had the odd shell-less egg over the years also, but always temporary & always just one. I think that's pretty normal. This is the oddest thing though. She has never laid just one, nor never laid a normal egg. I'd really love to know what's going on in there 🤔

Unusual Wonky Egg Laying Issue ..

Has anyone ever had a hen consistently laying 2 shell-less eggs at once? She is close to 7 months old & has been laying since she was about 17/18 weeks old... but she lays 2 eggs at once on the roost at night that are shell-less... most have a membrane but the odd one doesn't.. The only time she...

Help! Iridescent green feathers on my black silkie - does this mean she's a rooster?!

I know that this is an old post but I was looking for answers too. If it helps anyone, I also have 2 black Silkies, both with iridescent feathers coming in on the tail & one of them with a few coming in at the base of the wing. I had so much hope till I saw that & yep, turns out they are roos...

Review by 'chickenluvin' on item 'Ameraucana'

I have bantam Lavender Ameraucanas & I absolutely love them! They are so bright, curious & cheerful & the friendliest birds in my flock. They sit on me and love to be cuddled & stroked more than any other breed I have had. Even if you didn't spend time with them like I do, I think they would be...

Review by '' on item 'Cochin'

Such a wonderful little chicken! I have 4 bantam frizzles & a smooth & all are super tough. Frizzles are perfectly fine in rain or snow in my experiences. Mine are always out in it & have gone through -40's winters with zero problem! Tough, feisty little ones! In extreme conditions I keep all my...

Review by '' on item 'Faverolles'

I did a lot of research to make sure I got compatible, easy going, friendly breeds because I love to interact with my chickens a lot. I currently have 4 Faverolles along with 4 Buff Orpingtons & 5 bantam Cochins. Very compatible together, allowing the Faverolles not to be necessarily at the...

Is my cockerel showing early signs of aggression?

Thank you... Semantics can be a good thing! It can help distinguish between misinterpretations of behaviour. I hope & think you may be right. I won't be mean under any circumstances but will teach myself to be more assertive. As soon as I turn my back, he is also sneaking up behind me & he seems...

Is my cockerel showing early signs of aggression?

Thank you so much for this article. I have already gone out to the coop & started applying it. I now definitely believe he is challenging me. Several times since I asked for everyone's advice today, he has perched, flapped his wings & crowed the second he saw me... plus every single time I turn...

Is my cockerel showing early signs of aggression?

Thank you for sharing your experience. I will have to dig down & find the dominance in me. I won't tolerate attacking if this is his intention.... which it seems now it is. Thanks for giving me hope! I'll put my big girl panties on now & go & face him! LOL

Is my cockerel showing early signs of aggression?

So I have hope?? I just told another member that I just went out to the coop again (a few minutes ago) & he immediately flew on a perch flapping his wings & crowing the second he saw me coming. I hope he has even a hope of turning out nice.... :/

Is my cockerel showing early signs of aggression?

Should I pick him up & carry him around like some people say? I just went out there again & he immediately flew up on a perch, did some wing flaps & crows... no hesitation! I am now concerned & he isn't that old yet...

Is my cockerel showing early signs of aggression?

I have always enjoyed seeing other roosters & I am one that actually really loves to hear the crow. I love to watch interactions of any animal or bird & thought the same with having a rooster with hens. Could my situation have a chance of fizzling out or is he most likely going to get worse? I...

Is my cockerel showing early signs of aggression?

Thank you. I appreciate any help. I am not an aggressive rooster type of gal (no aggression in me..lol) & enjoy interacting with my chickens every day. I am also fairly inexperienced but have had one nice rooster before. I guess my gut was right & he's challenging me.... oh nooooooo :( I just...

Is my cockerel showing early signs of aggression?

Oh myyy. I never expected this from a Faverolles & why I chose him. I am a gentle person & am not sure how to deal with this. He was starting to make me a little nervous because I wasn't sure. He is quite a confident fella it seems...

Is my cockerel showing early signs of aggression?

Thank you for the link! I'll check it out. I was certainly not expecting an aggressive rooster after researching this breed & lovingly hand raising him. I sure hope this doesn't escalate. Can this be just temporary sometimes? The hens are all sweethearts...

Is my cockerel showing early signs of aggression?

So, does the circling & touching/rubbing the side of his body on my leg while he's doing that possibly mean he's becoming aggressive rather than flirting with me? I don't want to be mean with him if I can help it. I want to deal with it in the manner in which he is telling me ...& he can crow...
