My oldest hen Booka just turned 10 and I recently noticed changes to the backside of her legs. The scales seem to be thinning and the area is pink. I don’t believe this is scaly mites based on the condition of the rest of her legs and feet. She’s behaving normally. Underside of her feet look...
Poor babe. Seems like culling was the best decision. I’m sorry for your loss. I’m glad I tried the penicillin and/or I’m glad the scabs coincidentally fell off because I was getting close to making the decision to euthanize.
8/23 update - I found some penicillin a few days ago (8/18) and started giving her 125mg daily. The scabs fell off! Whether it’s a coincidence or a result of the penicillin, I don’t know but I don’t care. I’m so relieved she’s doing better! Crossing my fingers they continue to heal and do not...
My poor hen started developing some patches on her comb about 8 weeks ago. It initially looked like fowlpox which I’ve had in my flock in the past, so I treated with iodine daily. Unfortunately the patches continued to grow and now look like tumors. They’re hard and not full of pus. I feel so...
Posting two videos…
Saw this tiny worm in a poop from an Old English Game Bantam and not sure if it’s a roundworm, threadworm, cecal worm or other. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Your babies are beautiful! Please post more recent photos. I got Ayam Cemani chicks for Christmas and am also wondering about their sex. 4 weeks old now.
Hiya chicken friends!
I recently adopted this pretty girl from my Aunt and Uncle. Their large flock has been shrinking over the years, and last week their other hen disappeared, leaving Golden Waffles by herself. I decided to adopt her so she wouldn't be alone. She's currently in quarantine but...
@Wyorp Rock ,
My flock can see Golden in her quarantine pen and get close enough to touch her through the fence, if someone sticks their heads through. Unfortunately, there's already been some fussing on both sides of the fence! Everyone gets fluffed up and squawks aggressively. There has been...
Hi @Wyorp Rock,
Thanks for your response. I was just curious what to look out for in regards to comb infection. I don't think Golden has any problems but wondering what to look for.
Do you recommend I keep her quarantined for the entire 21 day treatment period? I hate to have her all alone...
Hiya chicken friends!
Yesterday, I adopted a new chicken from my Aunt and Uncle. Their flock has gotten smaller over time, until there were only two. Bianca disappeared a few days ago and poor little Golden was all alone. My Aunt asked me to adopt her so she wouldn't be lonely.
Golden is...
Coturnix Quail, I'm sorry that I don't have any suggestions. Do you think your quail have pox or canker? My chickens were definitely suffering from scabs, due to being pecked by the other girls in the flock. After a few weeks the scabs fell off and the beak regrew... now you can't even tell...
Update #2! The scabs on top of Beatrice's beak fell off. Woo hoo! I just hope her beak regrows because it's obvious where it was damaged and the outer layer is missing. Does anyone have experience with this?
Update!! Large scab under Cinnamon's beak fell off! Whew... now just waiting for the rest of the scabs on the top of their beaks to fall off. So so glad it's not pox. I'll post more pics when the other scabs are gone.
Cluckcluckgirl, both new birds had normal looking beaks when I got them. I have seen my older hens pecking at their beaks while showing aggression so I'm assuming they are injuries related to that. I am not certain though and hoping for confirmation someone who has seen this type of "scab" on...
Cluckcluckgirl, Did you see my photos of the girls' beaks? Do they look like scabs to you?
Thankfully there hasn't been a ton of violence between old girls and new. The new pullets can't put up much of a fight and seem to just try to defend themselves. I am mostly worried about the damage I'm...
Thanks chickluvinfreak. I hope someone else can give me some reassurance that this isn't a big deal. You know how us crazy chicken people worry about our birds!
