My favourite hen is fading away☹

Sadly I think the feral cats and foxes are going to decimate more than chickens with so many wild animals many small losing feed and protective habitat. Will take years or if ever to recover.

My favourite hen is fading away☹

Thought I would update anyone interested. The 3 days of prednisolone, isolating just for feeds of extra protein and treats and just in case treating legs for scale had a positive effect. She even started laying again! She still wouldn't roost but was moving around a bit more and socialising...

My favourite hen is fading away☹

Thank you for your thoughts. The hen ate a bit more today..still not enough...She has a few more days..and overall she seems not too distressed and copes better with the pecking order change than I do.

My favourite hen is fading away☹

She is surprisingly bright but still limited in movement and, staggering. As a last ditch effort I saw in some old posts people had tried anti inflammatory meds including prednisolone. So first dose this morning with some high protein tid bits throughout thr day. She has a small appetite, so...

My favourite hen is fading away☹

I noticed about a week or two ago I guess. She had been staggering more as well. I will treat for possible scale and try and get her to eat more high calorie and protein food in isolation and let her out to sit with the chicks and dust bathe. She is still preening herself. She does eat but not a...

Dear all thanks so much for your advice. I had checked her for lice and mites could see none but will look again with someone to assist. I checked her crop this morning and it was empty. She happily ate some cheese while photographed her which I could then feel in her crop. I will treat her legs...

My favourite hen is fading away☹

Hope someone can help. I have a black orpington..about 3 plus years old. Since her last chick rearing 7 months ago she stopped perching, preferring to sleep on the ground. She mounted, started laying again but refusing to perch. About 6 weeks ago she went broody again so I got her day olds as I...

    Help please from Oz

Hi cant keep my chick still enough but this is pretty much what it looks like. Copied this from an old post on the forum. Suggests leaking air sac. I do note that when i dropper feed her I have to go slow as she sort of gags. I try and drip into the side of her beak. She is not very helpful in...

    Help please from Oz

Thanks for the support. Yes minerals. She does not seem to be in pain just weak but not floppy. Reminds me of a premmy baby. Re the air bubble. Saw some threads mentioning this and chicks recovered albeit they were perhaps were more robust.

Hi i have had chickens before but not for a while I have had a sitting silkie for 4 weeks and a RIR for 2. I bought some fertile eggs by post for the silkie but split them between the 2 when i saw the RIR was committed. 4 hatched but the last one had a bloody shell and has remained weakened. She...
