    Feeding Question

Are those feeds marketed for chicken or game birds, btw? (Want to make sure if I ask my store to order something I know all the specifics.) Thanks for all your help! -T

    Feeding Question

So, Amiga, to do things your way (which seems smart), I would need oyster shells, cat kibble (which I have, for kitty), and a basic feed. If you don't mind, what is the basic feed your'e using? -T

    Feeding Question

My new ducks are 3 months old. I am wondering when to begin feeding the girls a laying diet, and for how long, and, since, they are housed with a male duck, how do I offer the appropriate food to both? My local store will probably be willing to order an appropriate feed for me if it is carried...

    Ancona Input Wanted

Just curious-How can you tell a white Ancona from a Pekin? I have 3 ducks that I got as yellow ducklings this late March and they grew into 2 white, 1 white with a few black spots, but their bills are yellowier, not as orange, as my Pekin and they are bigger and heavier. Wondering for some time...

    Duck Warfare

Well, I started yesterday free ranging the newer ducks in our bigger yard, away from the older ones and they seem very happy. It's a bit more work relocating them in the morning and at night, but so far peace prevails and the smell is way down!

    Duck Warfare

Thanks for the good advice! We think maybe we'll let the new ducks free range in our larger yard during the day to spread out the mess. We don't let Aflac and Q-Tip because Aflac bites my poor dog. But these guys played with him when they were teensers, so I think they won't be aggressive-They...

    Duck Warfare

That's what my husband said! You're probably right. I suppose the sticky thing is he's my favorite, despite being a meanie. He likes me the most, is the friendliest and is so spirited he thinks he can walk into my kitchen through the back door and bite my dog. I guess I'm not making him sound...

    Duck Warfare

Thanks, Nettie. I appreciate your experience and I hope you're right that it will work out. The thing is this is your strategy is exactly what I've done. They were visible to one another 3 weeks before I ever allowed them in the same space. They can see one another now! The other funny thing is...

    Duck Warfare

Hi all! I have had 2 male ducks (a Pekin, Aflac and a crested white, Q-Tip) that get along famously for the last year. This spring break, we got 3 Pekin (or Pekin cross) ducklings and raised them with the idea of hopefully having females who would lay eggs for us. It turned out we have 2...

    Pekin with black spots???

Interesting! He looks just like an Ancona with very few spots (just 3 or 4)...I know the feed store got the bunch from Privett Hatchery...I don't remember them even listing Anconasas available, but I wonder...I remember Swedish, Cayugas, Pekins, Buffs...but couldn't swear. It's a puzzle...

    Pekin with black spots???

I'll work on the picture thing. I know males sound raspy, but he's 100 x raspier and quieter than my 2 adult males. I almost wondered if he's part Muscovy, except he really pretty much looks Pekin...What else is white with black spots? Any guesses on the mix, anyone?

    Pekin with black spots???

My 3 ducklings-who appeared to be Pekins-are almost 8 weeks now and about full grown. The 2 females look and sound like Pekins, but the male has a few small black irregular spots-had them on his baby down and on his adult feathers too-and has almost NO voice-sounds very different from my 2 adult...

    Ducklings outside

Thanks for the input. This is kind of what I was thinking. They are outside now and seem very happy, not huddled or interested in the shelter, but I will plan on bringing them in at night until we get a heat lamp set up in a shelter, maybe this weekend if we are lucky. Anyone else's thoughts are...

    Ducklings outside

I know EVERYONE asks this, and I've looked at a lot of those posts, but will you guys help me analyze my specific situation anyway? : My ducklings (Pekins) were 4 weeks yesterday, partly feathered out, esp. on underbellies. I have had them in a wading pool brooder in the kitchen. Our house...

Ducklings are here and my dog has lost his mind

Actually, here's a funny story: My dog, Xavier, the Corgidor has recently started jumping the fence into my neighbor's yard, which is both amusing (because his legs are so short) and extremely annoying. Our neighbor has a dog door and he just loves her. When she comes home, she was finding him...

    Help!

Gosh! So much information to take in. Well, I did a littel searching online, with some mixed results, but mostly what I've found seems to say amprolium is safe for ducklings and that is all that is in the feed. I've also seen mixed info on whether to use chick starter or game bird, or whether to...

Ducklings are here and my dog has lost his mind

He seems to be getting used to them now, comes over to glance at them then walks away and lies down. The cat has expressed no interest whatever, which is odd, since he is a birder and I thought it would drive him nuts to have a tub full of little birds in his kitchen that he can't access. My dog...
