    I purchased 2 Maran chicks. One looks black copper maran, the other looks more like a black Ameracauna . Any thought as to breed? The one in the foreground is the one I question.

    12 weeks old. I thought Brahma/Blue Maran mix. I got the eggs from a friend. She said that some were pure bred and some were mix. Her hen gave up setting. She has lavendar orphs too.

    So, placed 15 Bielefelder and Maran eggs under AWOL (a hen). At first candling, 2 were not fertile and 1 had a bloodline. At second candling, one more bloodline. Today four have hatched, 3 died and one is doing well. Still have 7 to hatch. Paws crossed.
