Oh no..not this one though, right?  

Naw, that was over a year ago. Didn't set eggs for this HAL, as I was gonna wait and just get ducks this year... Yeah, that didn't work. Somehow I came home from the feed store with 8 chicks. <<Sigh>>

In my defence, there was a minimum of six and there was a buy six get two free offer up.

So, placed 15 Bielefelder and Maran eggs under AWOL (a hen). At first candling, 2 were not fertile and 1 had a bloodline. At second candling, one more bloodline. Today four have hatched, 3 died and one is doing well. Still have 7 to hatch.

The whole dilema....do you help or let the strong survive.....

Brinseas have no way to quickly pull an egg. I had to pull 2. Both starting zipping over an hour ago and they were getting quieter. Shell was pipped but membrane wasnt. One at a time I pulled them, pulled the rest of the membrane, and dropped them back in. They popped right out. They are both walking around now, but the pips haven't progressed. So, did I kill the pipped ones to save 2 upside down ones?

Final total this hatch

42 live cheeping babies.

Set 60 eggs.

8 made it lockdown but didn't hatch. But haven't candled yet to see if there is any hope.

The rest were clears and 3 blood rings

Edit candled rest. 4 internal pips. 2 were questionable. 1 was about ready to pop. 1 pipped wrong end. So no hope they were done.

The first four hatched earlier today. They are all mixed breed. I have an Americana and a White Rock for roosters.

Posting final numbers 8 out of 10 eggs. I'll take 80% on shipped eggs any day!
