Ducks with a 1/2 acre pond

Thought I might add that the house has 2 doors. If a coon comes in, they have an escape route. (This happens)

Ducks with a 1/2 acre pond

My ducks do well in a 43 acre lake. I built a floating house that they use. Since I’m in the woods, predators are abundant. Somehow, they do alright.

    Soft egg

My ducks just laid an egg that has a shell so soft that it's flexible. This is the first soft egg. Others have all been thick shells. Ducks are a little over 1 year old. Does this just "happen"?

Letting my ducks go or should I put them in a pen?

Well, I raised some last summer with hopes that I could "replace" an aging KC that lived on our lake for 14 years. I let them "out" onto the lake on Labor Day last year They were 12 weeks old. They seem to be happy. I keep a floating house for them about 20 feet from shore. It has a...

Do mallard ducks lay eggs everyday and can you eat the eggs?

Are theses wild mallards or did you raise them? I have a wild duck that has moved in with my rouens and she laid and egg this morning. Wondering if it's ok to eat. The rouens have been laying for a couple of months. We eat those. But not sure about the wild eggs.

    South Carolina

So, if birds can have it and not show symptoms, it's not an issue? Unless they die? I think i see why you would need to get that under control in production scenarios but other than taking the preventative steps, us BYCers need to carry on? Shouls we stop eating the eggs? Is there something I...

Baby ducks, what breeds are they?

Can anyone help me identify this wild duck? It has befriended my Rowens and Buff. It can fly but seems to be happy enough to stay.

    Floating Duck House

Here's a pic of my duck house. I made it with two doors so that if a predator were to come in they could get out the other door. I put Layena feed inside the feeder. They are in and out all day every day snacking. It has four nest boxes and the roof is hinged to make it easy to get the...
