Mine was doing the same each time I pushed it back in. We are on day 5 of her “lockdown” and today it looked much less swollen then before. I finally gave up pushing in and instead just applied ALOT of prep h in and around in hopes that if I could get the swelling down maybe she would leave it...
Today is day 5 of her “lockdown” as I’m calling it. The first 3 days I pushed it back in at least 5-6 times a day and she would just push it right back out.. I then just decided to apply the prep h around and inside the vent to see if I could get the swelling to come down maybe she wouldn’t push...
Hey everyone,
This is my first time dealing with a prolapsed vent. She is a 1.5year old mixed breed, noticed yesterday morning she had a prolapsed vent. I immediately separated her from the flock, brought in our basement, cleaned up her bum, lubed up and pushed it back in and applied...
She is the lowest on the pecking order. I guess you could say she is bullied because they won’t even let her on the same roost as the rest. She was molting a bit, maybe that’s what it is. Her comb was always like that from being picked on. She’s never pale, and everything else seems normal. I...
Hello all,
I’ve got a 1.5yr old barred rock, she is at the bottom of the pecking order as you will tell by her bare head in the photo. Last week with warmer temperatures she was fine, outside all day soaking up the sun doing normal chicken stuff. This past week the temperatures around me have...
Thank you for your reply!!
That what I was thinking, but then I just got paranoid lol
I’m going to soak their legs tomorrow and see how they look, then I will go from there! But nothing else has changed, just a few molting, but no one seems irritated. Again thank you!!
Hello all,
I am still new to the chicken world. Where I am we have been experiencing a lot of rain so my girls are COVERED in mud..
tonight while locking up the coop I noticed something odd about a few birds feet? I tried to quickly rinse them off and snap a pic, I’m not sure if this is scaly...
Hello everyone,
Sadly Rallye did not make it through the night. I am totally devastated, this was my first loss as a chicken owner. I will be keeping a close eye on everyone else for the next few days.
Thank you everyone for your input. I wish I had a definite answer as to what happened but...
Yes I’m going to try to get her in tomorrow morning. The emergency vets around me don’t treat poultry. I just want to make sure I’m doing all I can to keep her comfortable through the night.
Is that seem like the best bet even though there is no blood in her feces? I’ll probably treat everyone just to be safe, but I don’t want to scare myself lol
She’s a smaller chicken to begin with but definitely not underweight. Yes she is drinking. She does not fuss when palpating her abdomen or when I was feeling around her vent.
What would I do about the coccidia?
Hello all,
I am still new to raising chickens. I have a 6 month old crested cream legbar who yesterday started acting off. This past week we have had a heat wave where I live (Southern Ontario) so all the chickens have felt it.
Yesterday I noticed she was hanging out more in the coop and when...
Hello all!
New to the chicken world (I have barred rocks) 2 weeks ago I bought 7 chicks from a local lady who said they were a mix of Maran/Legbars/Ameraucana. The other 6 all look relatively the same, this one looks completely different from the others. I tried to get full body pictures but...
My name is Kristen, I purchased 23 acres in Sept/16 and have decided to add my first animals to the start of my hobby farm :) I will be getting 8 Barred Rock pullets March 28/17!! I am so excited! I will take a picture of my coop and post it tomorrow
