I'm in Florida. Right now we have highs in the 80's and lows in the 50's. We are getting a cold snap this weekend with lows in the 40's and high of 70. A little warmer than you.
Yes..do it! I just moved all my 19 4-5 week Olds out in the yard with the adults and the 2 week Olds out into the baby run. Everyone is outside. Yay! Next is getting the juveniles to roost with the adults at night.
Thanks..they are in the brooder in the coop and I have an enclosed run where they get to be outside but safe. I want to make a small door in the wire of the run for them to venture out but still to get in their run if chased. I think they can start.
Ok..so I want to start letting my 5 week old chicks out into the run and yard with the big birds. The little ones are big enough now so they won't fit through the 2 x 4 inch wire. I want them to be able to start a little free ranging but I'm concerned that the big girls will hurt them. I have a...
It was def the other chicks that killed the one. It butt was pecked out and I found 6 others with pecked butts and wings. I isolated them, made more room and gave more feed and the problem stopped. So far so good!
I observed my husband as he entered the chicken yard and the rooster ignored him and even gave way. My husband doesn't look at the roo at all. He just goes about the chores at hand and the roo pays him no mind. I tried not looking at the roo..no eye contact at all and by golly..it works! It's...
All my adults, 16 hens and one roo, stay out in the rain all day. They are soaked when they finally come in but they seem to enjoy it. Who woulda thunk!
Thank you so much..I'm learning. I just learned that if I don't make eye contact with my rooster he stops attacking me. There is so much to know.I inherited 16 hens and a rooster from a neighbor who couldn't take care of them anymore due to illness. I get a dozen eggs a day give or take. My...
Well I have discovered that thereally must be a bully in the flock of chicks. I have five more with bloody spots on their backsides. I separated them but I need to take the bully out. Watching for the one who is beating up on the others
A month ago I hatched 20 eggs in an incubator from fertile eggs I collected from my adult hens. I tried initially to allow one of the hens to hatch the eggs but before they could have she kicked them all over the floor of the coop and broke many. I wound up hatching 20 Chicks from fertile eggs...
I have eggs in my incubator that were put in over about a 10-day period period the early ones are ready to hatch and I stop turning them. The later ones still need to be turned but I'm afraid to open the lid because the humidity will go down. What do I do?
