    Pecking made worse?

The thing is there are no open wounds so I hate to separate. I was just trying to cover up the red skin to prevent it. I’ve separated before and they never were able to reintegrate and I had to give some of my favorite hens away. If I see pecking early morning I will separate and hope they will...

    Sudden Illness in Chick.

Update: Chick received Nutri Drench Orally three times a day for a week and a half and now you wouldn’t even notice she was sick!

    Pecking made worse?

My black Cochin who is one of my hens that are all the same age has a near completely bald head from pecking which I worried would get an open wound eventually so I mixed some blue food dye into triple antibiotic ointment and applied it. Once I put her back they started pecking the ointment...

    Sudden Illness in Chick.

Just from Nutrena Medicated 18% to Purina Medicated 18%. Nothing too different in ingredients. Both smelled and looked fine. Brooder is warm on one end cool on the other. Temp underneath is around 90. The other side was way cooler. Around 50. They do not act hot. They’re milling around eating...

    Sudden Illness in Chick.

Here’s one I took not very good but all I have. He’s splayed out but tries to move. Using wings for balance. Was fine as could be 3 hours before.

    Sudden Illness in Chick.

Now I have another chick showing weird symptoms. This one can’t stand up but wants to. It’s legs are strong it’s almost like it’s the wings. Neck is turned weird. They got vitamins and electrolytes as chicks but I took them out because last year I overdid them. I don’t know what to do. Last year...

    Sudden Illness in Chick.

One is not too terrible for me. I lost 10 between two hatches last year. Never was able to find out why. Which is why I’m trying to figure it out to prevent that from happening. They’re meat chicks so they only are cute for 3-4 weeks then the ugly sets in. And yes the temps change. I just don’t...

    Sudden Illness in Chick.

I raised the lamp earlier today. ya sitting at about 95. And they’re all falling asleep underneath and calm so I’m thinking I hit the sweet spot. The chick passed. It definetly was either trampled or had wry neck as it’s head would arch back. I tried giving him nutridrench drop by drop but no...

    Sudden Illness in Chick.

On further examination it looks like it is wry neck. The chick has a crooked bent neck. So can wry neck happen suddenly or is it a result of injury is my next question.

    Sudden Illness in Chick.

Heat Lamp. Can’t use a heat plate. It just gets too cold here in May and I raise in a shed outside. I am going to raise the lamp. They have room to get away to cooler space so it shouldn’t be all caused by heat.

    Sudden Illness in Chick.

I checked on all my 6 day old chicks and left for a few hours. They had their medicated food, water, and the heat was between 90-100. Came home and found one chick laying face down with one eye shut. Have him some nutri drench carefully but I’m thinking he will not make it. Could he have gotten...

    Feed Smelled off

I had been feeding my pullets medicated chick feed mixed with 20% to try and wean them off easy. Well I had poured the bag of Med feed into a metal bucket to keep the mice out which I always seal the lid on and it got warm. Well I opened the lid without thinking and fed them it for 2 days after...

    Should I supplement?

They’ve been on as high as I could get until I now found there’s a 26%version. They look great but I’m really just trying to see how big I can get them.

    Should I supplement?

Thank you for the suggestion. You give them raw? I’ve been trying to figure out whether I should risk salmonella or not but I would use store bought eggs (which are all I’ve got since my layers are still growing pullets).

    Should I supplement?

They are confined for that reason! Next bag will be the switch to that! Thank you so much!

    Should I supplement?

I’m raising Murray’s Big Red Broilers for the fair and would like them to be as big and as good as possible for the show/sale in 4 weeks. They are on 22% Nutrena Meatbird. Should I give them some stuff to boost them or just keep pouring the feed. They probably are around 4-5 lbs and are 9 weeks old.
