    Roosters With No Tail Feathers

Do roosters molt? My rooster lost his tail feathers too, but I don't think anything plucked them out.

Head Shaking ???? Is this a problem?

My slw shook her head when she was a chick, she is now 7 mo old. We named her Twitch. Maybe it is just a trait of the slw. She doesn't do it anymore.

After 2 yrs. of free range...it finally happened

WOW!! I'm not on here for a few days and come back to see my post turn into a major debate. I didn't mean for it to become an argument between free rangers and and coop/ run people. I was just pointing out that I was lucky enough not to have a loss for 2 yrs. These are younger chickens this year...

Just paid $5.99 for a jar of mayonaisse!!

Try buying the store brand or shopping at those discount grocery like ALDI or Save a Lot. I don't know if they are nationwide but I'm sure you have something similar. You have to bring your own bags, or use their boxes and pack your groceries yourself. Some items just don't stack up to the...

Not enuff eggs..or need more chickens

Since it will be at least until spring before I can add to the coop, I will know by then how many real customers I will have. Making the coop larger will be easy since we used a 16x8 shed frame we had already started and only used half of it, so we will only have to put up walls and floor on the...

Not enuff eggs..or need more chickens

Ok, so the pullet eggs are getting big enough to sell, and my dh announces at work we will be selling eggs, there were about five people saying I want some and a couple people said they wanted 2 dozen a week. After 2 yrs. of free range...it finally happened

Quote: My BO was caught by the hawk within 5 ft of the covered run, with the gate open and within 15 ft. of the coop, which is raised so they can go under it, so being close to the coop didn't really help, I think they were just too young to recognize danger

After 2 yrs. of free range...it finally happened

Well, I let them out of the run for a whole day, and they seemed to be more vigilant, and the roo did a good job calling out warnings, although they would run and hide if an airplane or butterfly flew over. answere to the wuestions...I lock them up in the coop at night, I provide feed and water...

    Baby ducks

I have 3 pekins. I used nonmedicated chick starter. And I made a waterer out of a gallon milk jug, just cut a hole or two just big enough for their head to fit in and about as high from the bottom as their head is, as they grow make a new one with the hole higher and bigger. I also saw a post a...

ANYONE, ever sold or auctioned old hens that aren't laying anymore? ?

I thiink that the people who buy chickens at auctions can tell by looking at them that they are old. At our local livestock auction, old hens sell for around $3 and roos for $5. I bought a crate of old hens, for warmth and companionship to my 3 young chickens, a couple years ago and paid $2.75...

Quote: I don't think it was a rabbit. The sounds lasted at least five minutes, maybe more, cause my dh said he was listening to it for awhile before he called me to come out, and then I heard it for a couple more minutes, it wasn't a constant screaming, it would stop then start again, then I...

After 2 yrs. of free range...it finally happened

I just think the birds are healthier and happier free ranging. They get more of a variety of bugs and vegatation when they free range, which I think makes better eggs.
