Dog and fire works how do I help

My old Great Pyrenees (RIP) was terrified of fireworks. She'd hide, quivering, in the bath tub of an interior bathroom. I'd place a large towel over her head and it seemed to help. Best wishes for calming your little one.

    Showgirl Rooster crosses?

Breeding can be such a crap shoot can't it? I wonder if there's any demand for Showgirl crosses? I'm not looking to make money but want to know I can place any offspring.

    Showgirl Rooster crosses?

Aha I didn't know that, very helpful. So if I have this right, naked neck is a dominate gene? If N stands for the naked neck gene and n stands for non-naked neck, then homozygous is NN and heterozygous is Nn (or nN)? How helpful of nature to advertise the heterozygous type! That is one pretty...

    Showgirl Rooster crosses?

I saw a gorgeous Showgirl roo at a local swap meet over a month ago. This bird was calico looking with a fair amount of white, hard for me to describe. I can't get him out of my mind. There's another swap coming up this weekend and I may be able to get him. I have 8 (mostly) heritage breed...

Could you tell me what a BA is? I'm not aware what some of the abbreviations are and haven't found a page that explains them. The pink eggs intrigue me. I was surprised to find definitely pinkish eggs in my nest boxes and finally traced them to my Brahmas.

    Oozing Bloody Head-pullet attack-what do I do?

They snuggled right up to Martha who likes them. Maybe she's thinking they're her chicks? All the vet said about her birth defect that it was "cerebellar dysfunction" and nothing could be done. I read somewhere that an 81 mg aspirin dissolved in a pt of water would reduce her pain & swelling...

    Oozing Bloody Head-pullet attack-what do I do?

I do have photos but haven't figured out how to post them from my camera/computer. Don't have a smartphone. Martha survived. A few weeks later, she was ready to go outside. As you wisely suggested, we didn't put her back in with the others. Luckily we had an unoccupied coop and small, fenced...

    Oozing Bloody Head-pullet attack-what do I do?

Our neurologically impaired Buff Orpington, Martha, was found on her back with one leg sticking up. We thought she was dead and her head was all bloody, eyes swollen shut and it looked like she'd been scalped. While looking at her in shock, Elizabeth Easter Egger attacked her. Our 9 girls turned...

    Do Chickens Help Each Other?

Our nine 13 w/o pullets are now in an outside hen house/run combo. Like many of them, there's a ramp that leads up to the hen house. We figured we'd probably have to pick up Martha Orpington every night and put her in, then take her out in the morning. The unfortunate girl has some sort of...

    Brain Damage?

I appreciate your sympathy and fellow feeling. The helpful article you referenced is informative but also frightening. Her symptoms seem more like Epidemic Tremor that any of the others and I sure hope she doesn't have it. I just feel so bad for the poor little girl.

Losing all hope that I'll get to keep my *girls* - tough day

This has got to be so hard. I feel bad for you and hope the ones you have turn out to be all pullets.

    Brain Damage?

Thank you so much oldhenlikesdogs. I never even considered disease as a possibility. She was supposedly vacced against Mareks per our nearby Southern States. She came from there along with 5 of her flockmates. Happily all 8 of the other chicks are doing fine. I have to admit I'm more upset than...

    Brain Damage?

There's Something about Martha. Our Martha, a Buff Orpington, just doesn't seem right in the head. She's one of nine, ~10 week old young females, who we moved into their outside combo henhouse/run this weekend. Even as a baby peep she was kind of ditzy. She'd shake the entire time she was...

    Neighbor released feeder rats!!!!

Also I've heard that there are people who "rent out" Rat Dogs for extermination purposes. The dogs are very happy doing this. A friend of ours had (of all things) a Newfoundland who hated rats and loved killing them. She was quite successful. Another friend has Schnauzers who compete in Barn Dog...

    Neighbor released feeder rats!!!!

What kind of critter was it that the irresponsible neighbors were feeding the rats to? Maybe you should get one of them.

Comment by 'Luffa' in article 'Chicken Treat Chart: The Best Treats for Backyard Chickens'

Not only was this a wonderfully helpful article but that photo of the puzzled chicken checking out that lobster carcass had me laughing for five minutes! The long antenna arching over the ravaged shellfish framed the upcoming feast beautifully. BTW, did they actually eat it?
