I set a few eggs back around Thanksgiving-ish. I woke up to 3 chicks this morning! I have several roos (1 Black Marans, 1 Blue Copper Marans, 1 Brahma Bantam, 1 Cochin Bantam, and a tiny Old English Game bantam that looks like Hei Hei from Moana :P )
My girls are 2 CCLB, 2 Barred Rock, 1 RIR, 3...
I got my first egg yesterday morning but I have no idea who laid it. I have a variety of breeds including two bantams. One is an OEGB (from what I was told) and the other bantam I have no idea. I don't even know how small their eggs are/will be. Here is a picture of my first egg (tan small one)...
So I made a little run for them. I felt bad that they didn't have much room in the sheltered and closure connected to the coop. I'm still putting them inside the coop at night I just figured this would give them a little taste of going back inside the coop on their own when it's time to go to...
Thanks for the reply. One end of my creek I'm not too worried about since there is a dam that I couldn't imagine them waddling up and over it. The other end of my creek is open and goes to a church that owns a couple acres. No one is usually there except on Sundays and maybe Wednesday...
I just recently acquired two 8 week old Cayuga/black swedish mix ducks. I'm already in love! I currently have them in my chickens run with a kiddie pool since my chickens free range now. I put them in the coop at night inside a pen so my rooster doesn't bother them. I was wondering, how well do...
He's a she?! That's great news! She's such a cute little chicken and so calm. There is another one like her running around at my cousin's. I'm going to see if he can catch it for me.
So yesterday my cousin gave me the tiniest little rooster I've ever seen. My cousins neighbor has a flock of free range chickens and decided he didn't want to fool with them anymore and said if my cousin could catch them, he could have them. This little guy was one of the chickens he caught, so...
Well, shame on me for not knowing what the egg laying song sounded like. Apparently some of my hens have been going around singing it! Problem is, they free range during the day and I live out in the country, so if they are laying, it could be anywhere. My hens won't be 20 weeks until August 5th...
Thought about that but unless someone jumped our fence, there's no way into our backyard and the ones that are missing are my most skittish chickens and they were basically impossible for me to ever catch but who knows.
yikes! That's pretty brutal. Yeah I never thought about foxes until someone else mentioned it. I've been watching for them all day and went looking around again and there is no sign of them anywhere.
I didn't even think of foxes, but yeah 4 at one time would be a little extreme for a fox. While my neighbor has never seen coyotes around here, I have during the colder months so it not at all surprising, but like you said, I would assume they would strike at night not in broad daylight.
I was afraid of that. Do coyotes usually carry off their kill? A neighbor a couple houses down from me said she saw a wolf/dog type animal going into the woods by my house, she also said yesterday was the first time she had seen anything like that in our area. I'm assuming it was a coyote...
Yesterday 4 hens went missing. One was full grown and the other three were slightly smaller. They went missing in the middle of the day. My husband and I have searched high and low on our property, neighboring property, even in creeks along the road and nothing. Not one single sign of struggle...
I have

I had two EE pullets but one somehow escaped the pen they are in and I haven't seen...
