    March 2023 hatch-a-long

I used the plastic mesh from cross stitching to make a egg-closure to separate my eggs :)

If this is day 16, then yes, they’ve passed. Sorry.

    May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

I’ve been following from afar and set 18 silkie and Cochin eggs (11 of which made it to lockdown) that were due to hatch on Friday. Guess who insisted on making an early appearance? Yeah, I was more than a little shocked, lol. I didn’t even have time to take the egg turner out when he started...

First time Hatcher, with no success.

What’s your humidity been like? If your incubator has a gauge, you often can’t trust that. I made that mistake my first hatch and had only two silkies hatch, and I honestly don’t know how they managed at what ended up amounting to about 40% humidity during lockdown.

    Help!!

I think you’re fine for now. Just check the air sacs on day 7 and adjust accordingly if they’re too small or too big.

    Help!!

What day are you at? Prior to day 18, you’re probably fine. I like to run mine between 40-50 for the first 18 days.

    brinsea mini advance not working

How long have you had it? If it’s still covered by return policy or warranty I’d return it or contact the manufacturer. If it’s not, get a new incubator?

    Incubator lining

I know it’s day 18 and too late, but I got my shelf liner with grocery pick up at Walmart. They should be fine without it though :)

    Considering a new bird

A tiel does sound great, or maybe a little green cheek conure. I suggest looking up parrot rescues in your area. Not only are you rescuing a bird, but you’ll get to know the adult personality really well, visit your prospective pet, and learn from people well-verses in birds, behavior, and adoption.

can we put two African grey parrots in the same cage?

I suggest either keeping the two cages next to each other and seeing how they do and if they even want to be together or getting a double macaw cage and allowing them to be side by side until they want to bond. Just as long as you’re okay if they don’t. I run a parrot rescue and while some do...

    Incubating Silkie Eggs

Yeah, like everyone else said, I’d leave them in. I set 13 silkie and two bantam Cochin on March 21, four were duds, two were early quitters, and it’s day 21 and I only have two hatched so far. Better to have some you end up rehoming than just a couple.

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

First hatch and first baby on day 20! I forgot to enter the HAL, even though I put them in the incubator late March 21, just so I could take part lol, but I hope you don’t mind me posting a pic of our cute little blue silkie!

Darn it. Those are the only pics the seller sent and she’s almost two hours away so I can’t take more pics myself. Thanks for replying!

Gender help please :) marans and orps

i might be getting these five chicks, but I can only have pullets. I know it’s super early to tell, but does anyone have any guesses? The black chicks are the marans and the picture of the three chicks are the Orpingtons.

    Breed Recommendations and Online Hatcheries

Ideal is a great hatchery. They have a lot of options and no chick minimum, just a 25.00 order in chicks minimum, if that makes sense. I ordered nine and reached that 25. The shipping is reasonable and they guarantee live delivery. They definitely stand behind their chicks too, as we had a...

    Bantams in the winter

That makes sense. :) I was thinking about keeping our girls in for Jan-March. That's the worst or it around here. I'm not so concerned about the big girls because they have so much fluff, but my silkies are my babies. Esp my show girl. Are you moving yours in for the entire winter?

    Bantams in the winter

I'm thinking of doing that with my two silkies, but with a dog crate instead Right now they're in their own coop because my big girls won't accept them.

    silkie sexing

I couldn't get full body shots, but I will if it helps. I think two might be silkie mixes (both have three rows on their combs and one has white skin). Chick 1 (three rows) Chick 2 Chick 3 (three rows)
