    What is her breed?

We suspect she is a silver appleyard x buff orpington. What do you think?

Worms. Ugh! What do I do?

I see it is off label for chickens. How much do you give each bird and how often and for how long? Can/should I give it to my ducks which are housed with the chickens? Have you ever used piperazine? I can get it in a much smaller bottle and much cheaper cost.

Worms. Ugh! What do I do?

My daughter found this wormy poop on top of the nest boxes, so we know it didn't come from one of our ducks. It must be one of the chickens. What do we do?

Ducks on Niacin and chickens that don't need it

Do you use niacin in their water or yeast in their food? I am looking for the most efficient way to give the ducks the extra niacin. Also, do you know how much niacin ducks should get? I can check with my retailer about food specifically for ducks, but I think they just have an all poultry...

Ducks on Niacin and chickens that don't need it

We have a pair of 9 week old ducks and 4 chickens (3 hens and a roo). We have one duck with weak legs, so the ducks have been getting nutritional yeast for about 3 weeks now. I would like to put the ducks and chickens together, but I was wondering if the yeast would be bad for the chickens. Do I...

    What's wrong with duckling's legs?

As you can hopefully see here, our Rouen is walking with her legs bent back. Our other duckling is a Black Swedish and is walking with her legs straight. Is there a problem with the Rouen, or is it just that different breeds walk differently? Please comment.

When can you tell male from female?

Thanks for your advise and comments. We decided to go with ducklings from Murray McMurray, and we chose one black swedish female and one rouen female. They arrived today! My daughter had their new home all ready for them! Of course one of them is already standing in the water! lol

When can you tell male from female?

We are looking at Silver Appleyard ducks. The woman says she has them hatching now. The problem is my daughter wants them as young as possible, so they will bond with her, and I don't really want to deal with a brooder set up! And I want females so I don't have to worry with overmating or...

When can you tell male from female?

Are males hard on the females when they mate, like roosters are? That is mostly why I am trying to avoid a male. We had one hen and one rooster and he worked her over. Now we have 3 hens and one roo and chicken saddles on the girls. Don't want to go through this with ducks, too.

When can you tell male from female?

I want to buy some ducks from a lady, but I want 2 females. How old will the ducks have to be before we can reliably tell whether they are male or female? Jill and Maya

Hello from me and my 4-Her!

My hen has been wearing a chicken saddle, but it doesn't cover right where the wing meets the body. This is where he has pecked out or broken off her feathers. We will keep them separated until her feathers grow back or we get more hens. Oh crap, now I will need more saddles: well, thanks for...

Hello from me and my 4-Her!

I was a member of BackYard Chickens several years ago when my oldest 2 kids were younger and had 4-H chickens. Now my youngest has caught the fever, even though we haven't had any poultry for 8 or 9 years. We currently have 2 Easter eggers and unfortunately one turned out to be a roo. He is...
