My 19 week old silkie has what I think is sour crop. She’s quarantining, has been for 3 days. She’s drinking fine and she eats eggs with avocado oil a few times a day. She is way more lively (as in acting normal) and no longer gasps for breath at all. Her crop has gone down but still feels and...
I’m just at work but will send a pic tomorrow morning. Her crop is absolutely massive and feels filled with air. My daughter has seen her drop her head down and seen stuff come out of her mouth and she has crusty feathers all down her front which tells me there’s stuff coming out at times, but...
My silkie hen has a massive crop that feels like an inflated balloon. How do I know if this is sour crop or an impaction?
She will stretch out her neck and gasp for air, and if I massage her crop I hear gurgling.
I’ve tried to give her Apple cider vinegar water but she won’t drink it. She’s is...
I’m new to tube feeding and I need help.
First attempt went fairly well. Second attempt was pretty much a fail. I can’t get her to relax, at all....and keep her head still while I’m sliding the tube down. She panics, shakes her head back and forth, pulls her head into her feathers and won’t stop...
Second time didn’t go so well. She panics and pulls her head away every time I try to open her beak. She doesn’t stop shaking her head and pulling away until I let go. She gets extremely stressed out.
Im feeling like we may need to put her down. She’s fighting the feeding so hard, she can’t see...
My little racoon victim Fern is totally blind and won’t eat. We have been syringe feeding her which has been so time consuming and stressful for her. Today I tube fed her for the first time - holy cow is that ever easier and quicker. I got 20 ml into her no issue.
I used crushed pellets soaked...
Any ideas on how to do this?
Our chicken is recovering ok after the racoon attack that blinded her. We are syringe feeding her right now and it’s going well, she’s pooping totally normal and seems ok. Since she can’t see though, she won’t peck at anything to eat. Any ideas on how to...
I will read about it. The syringe feeding is going fine. It takes about 5 min to get 12ml into her 4 times a day. Plus an extra syringe of applesauce or yogurt. I just need to know if that’s enough for her.
I posted a few days ago about my Ameraucana hen Fern....she was attacked in the face by a racoon and I’m quite sure she’s blind.
We have been syringe feeding her (not tube feeding) using a 9ml syringe. I can open her beak and squirt some in and she swallows properly. I have made a porridge out...
So far I haven’t had to tube feed. Syringe feeding is going fine. I can open her beak, squeeze some in, and she swallows. We do it over and over again. So far I’ve only been able to do smooth foods like yogurt and applesauce followed by water. I’m going to try blending some chicken food with...
Hi guys,
I’m really not sure how to go about this. My Ameraucana Fern was attacked by a racoon. Both eyes are swollen shut. I can give her water via a dropper and she does well with that. However I have no idea how to get her to eat. I made scrambled eggs for her, but I don’t think she can...
Thanks so much!!
What kind of high protein foods would you suggest? Scrambled egg? Cat food? And how do we go about feeding her if she won’t open her mouth? I haven’t tried yet but I’m assuming that’s what’s going to happen.
Hi everyone,
We went away for the night last night and came back to a racoon attack. My 12 year old said she shut the coop door properly before we left, but I don’t think she did because our coop is bomb proof. She feels horrible and responsible.
One of my gorgeous Ameraucana pullets is dead...
My chicks are 6 weeks old, there are 20ish chicks ( lost count haha!!). I have 7 hens that range in age between 1-5 years. You can see in the picture how they are separated but can 100% see each other, they’ve been like this for 3 weeks now.
Are 6 week olds old enough to free range? Free ranging...
I ended up finding an amazing chicken vet. It’s not MG, we narrowed it down. She prescribed tetracycline and they’ve all cleared up and are doing great. I’m so relieved.
