    My first Roo

I think I may have my first rooster. We usually get sexed chicks but wanted a Mille fleur d’uccle. We have 16 other breeds in our flock. I would love to try to hatch some eggs but I don’t know where to start & have so many questions. Can this little guy breed with other, larger breeds? Will I be...

    Still waiting for first egg

WE GOT AN EGG TODAY!!! When I got back from my run all the nesting boxes were scratched out and one of the ceramic eggs was kicked out. I put the sex link in there & she scratched around a few. I came inside for a work call & she ended up laying under some corrugated sheets kind of up against...

    Still waiting for first egg

SUPER appreciate everyone who has helped me so far :love My big girls are now 23+ weeks old and still no eggs. Almost all of them are now squatting but only 2-3 are really red in the face. These are the breeds; red sex link (really thought we should of had an egg so far), black maran...

    Bloody Coop

no fighting, no apparent injuries. They're still pretty juvenile so we can't quite grab all of them. We did last night but couldn't see anything

    Bloody Coop

yesterday, I thought it was my cochin based on your response. She was kind of a loner yesterday and looked like she might have had some bloody poo on her fluffy butt. I checked her leg feathers and couldn't see anything. it wasn't until I examined the droppings under the roost that I could...

    Bloody Coop

It took a few days, but figured out which one it was (getting them to utilize the roost was key). Vent looks fine--a little pale-- but no injuries or prolapse. ALL chickens are being treated for cocci with corid. Should I do anything else?

    Bloody Coop

My husband let our oldest chickens (21 weeks) out of their coop earlier and found tons of blood. No clue what happened. No apparent injuries. We checked butts the best we could (thinking it’s bloody poo) but couldn’t find anything evidently wrong. We weren’t previously giving them the cocci meds...

    Still waiting for first egg

They are! I guess maybe that is part 2; we just built a “big” coop (8x12’) and currently have our 10-week old chickens confined in there and plan to move the 20-week girls in next weekend at night. We have 6-week girls that need to move into the brooder in the big coop. So, should i keep the...

    Still waiting for first egg

I will preface this post by saying I know I am impatient. :) I have 7 girls, all different breeds, that are 20.5 weeks old. One is a red sex link which I would have expected to lay by now. Her pubic bones are about 3 fingers apart (pointer finger and ring finger each on a bone), her comb and...

    Tail feathers pointing down

One of my girls has had her tail feathers pointing down since day 1, no problems laying. However, I noticiced another girl with hers down (previously normal posture). Doesn't seem to have any trouble laying. Should I be concerned?

    Noisy chickens

I've had my girls almost 8 months now and in the last few weeks, a 1-2 of them started this God awful squawking, almost like a long drawn-out moan. I'm not supposed to have chickens in my area so I'm worried they're going to get me in trouble! Is there anything I can do to keep them quiet...

Tail feathers pointing down but appears healthy

One of my red sex links' tail feathers are pointing down & im not sure why. My other two started laying a week or two ago. Should I be concerned? She appears to be eating/drinking just fine. No behavioral warnings that I'm aware of. Shes a little bit smaller but I would assume she would be...

    First time feather mom!

Got the second egg Tuesday (2 days later)! I found the girl with the moist vent so I'm guessing it's her that's been laying. Does their vent get moist before they lay or only after they've started?

    First time feather mom!

Hi! First timer with 3 red sex links and 3 EEs. One of the red sex links laid the first egg yesterday at 19w1d. It was pretty small but I was SO excited. I was really hoping to find another today but no luck. 2 of the sex links have bright red faces/combs & are squatting and the other isn't...
