We found a tiny egg in the duck nest today. It had a lot of deposits on the outside, it was rough. I figured it was no good because I marked all of the older eggs the other day... or maybe not. We cracked it open assuming it wasnt developing since none of my birds are sitting on the eggs at all...
I think I will just start fresh. I marked all of the eggs I candled earlier so we will be able to tell the difference. The trash service doesn't run until Friday again and I don't have anywhere to keep them safely until then but the nest. Thank you for the advice. :thumbsup
We were really interested in eating them because from what I've read they have double the good for you stuff that chicken eggs do. We have a few people in our family that have health issues so they're on a special diet and duck eggs would be fabulous for them. I was under the impression that you...
I would be happy with either honestly, I just wasn't sure if they'd be safe for eating or not. I would say the oldest is probably a month old. I'm not sure which is which either because they all look the same. I can say the cleanest eggs are the newest ones tho. I don't own an incubator of any...
I have two ducks and they've been laying eggs, yay! My problem is I also have two drakes, one of which is quite a bit younger so I'm not worried about him breeding at the moment. I do have one Rouen male that is mature enough. I have thrown a few eggs out that were cracked and one I know was...
I think it's a Welsh harlequin, it looks like them the most out of the other breeds I've seen. Everything I've seen said they don't or can't fly tho... and he hasn't gone far, but none of the other ducks can get more than 1 door off of the ground and he went over the fence lol.
I got this little fella from the feed store a month or so ago and the guy said he was probably a runner. I'm thinking not after he's gotten bigger. He doesn't have the carriage the runners do. I've looked at a bunch of runner photos lol. He can also fly. He just went over my 6' fence. We were...
I will definitely try the hay. And I'll use some of the mystery eggs I found for in the nest. If I mark the egg in some way so we know it's an older one will it put them off?
My hens started laying a couple weeks ago. Yay! I've been getting at least one egg a day... or so I thought. Annoyingly they lay in the "poop chute" in their coop and not the nesting boxes... I've put shavings and a plastic egg in there and they just scattered the shavings. I'm going to try hay...
I finally got a decent pic of it standing up. This is as up right as it gets, it balances mostly on it's left leg so it can't get straight up like the other runners do. I'm still not sure if it is a runner, I've seen my pekins stand like this too.
I took them to my friend's work for "farm day"...
I will try to get a pic tomorrow. It tries to stand up right but since it's leg is still a bit weak it doesn't always manage it. It's really fast tho. I can say that lol
Hi everyone. I got an injured duckling from the feed store a few weeks ago, and it's doing better now. My question is, is it a runner? The guy at the feed store said it probably was, that they just get a variety of ducks so he never knows what they have. The yellow one in the last pic is the...
My coop is off the ground a bit, so the ducks can't or won't go in it. I'm talking my other half into changing the "duck hut" so they can actually use it. Long story lol.
It may just be my rooster, but they've all been together since I got them. My rooster is a jerk, but he does try to mount my ducks on occasion. They are all around 2 1/2 months I think, I'd have to look at a calender to be sure. I plan on separating him one way or another before long. My...
