hi,
My favorite hen seems to have lost a few toes due to frostbite. They are healed nicely. I didn't even notice at first. I just happened to notice he wasn't walking and scratching like she used to. Where her toes/nail were are clean stumps. Will they grow back or will she adapt?
Hi,
My favorite hen is sitting on the ground a lot the last few days. I picked her up, her vent and feet looked fine. She hasn't laid all winter and my girls are just starting to lay again. Could she be getting ready to resume laying or is something wrong? When she does walk she looks fine...
Hi,
We built our first hoop coop this weekend. It's got an 8x10 frame and we have 7 hens and 4 nesting boxes. I love it. We also added a couple of roosts for the girls. Is it ok that they sleep out there? It's 3/4 tarpped now and I was thinking during the winter I would put greenhouse...
Hi,
My chickens have lice. Not super bad, but DE isn't working. I got poultry dust, but it doesn't say if I have to throw the eggs away for a bit of not. Do any of you know?
I'm going to dust the birds, clean out the coop, dust and replace bedding, and spread dust and lime on the coop floor...
They are white and lay brown eggs. I had a Welsummer, Swedish Flower, Easter Egger, and Delaware but my flock got wiped out. A nice lady had two mixed breeds she gave me.
Anyone between Cape Cod and Plymouth looking to rehome any young hen that lays any color other than a light brown egg? We are looking to have a more colorful basket. Both our EE got eaten :-( I can't find anyone local that has anything other than chicks.
Yes, I have been moving my 3 remaining ladies into my workshop at night. They are pooping (as they do) and stinking up the joint (as they do). I'm anxious to get
I keep getting my whole flock wiped out and tweaking my coop
One more quick weird question. Once I feel it's secure, if I put raw meat in the coop would a predator try to get it? That way I can test the durability without using my chickens as bait.
Would/could this work?
I'm worried about the hotline with a 3 year old. Curiosity often gets the best of him. I upgraded and redid the run with hardware cloth, and then double secured it with strapping. Fingers crossed...I sadly can't find and Easter Eggers, Welsummers, or Swedish Flowers around here.
Hi,
We lost our whole flock of pullets. We had two Easter Egger (got our very first egg yesterday), a Delaware, Swedish Flower, and a Welsummer. We are first time chicken owners and finally we got an egg then BAM. My 3 year old is so sad. 3 were mangled and 2 vanished. I want to take a couple...
