    YO GEORGIANS! :)

I had no idea they moved their eggs so much. They really earn their chicken feed. Those incubators you posted this evening are not your latest acquisition are they? I'd like to see the look on RH's face when the truck pulls up to unload those. Is that about 1/2 of your flock? Have most of...

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

If you're willing to drive to Dawson County, Flowerbh almost always has a broody hen she can add eggs to and will sometimes incubate eggs for others if she has enough in total to fill an incubator. She also has some of the greatest color variations in eggs and lots of naked necks she sells.

Would a hen be able to hatch eggs in any positions other than on their sides? Does anyone know if hatcheries position eggs and if so, how? Good luck with quick sales on your extra chicks!

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

It's interesting that she would go back to laying sooner when losing the chicks vs. losing the eggs but good to know that she would try to take over another nest if only losing eggs. That info may be useful in managing hatches. It's really odd that the one chick hatched so soon. What could be...

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

Maybe the warm weather is to blame for the early hatch. You mentioned before that you had placed some eggs under a broody hen. You also mentioned on more than one occasion that once the broody hens hatch out their eggs, they get very upset when they have their chicks taken away. Have you...

Pullet swallowed a foot of paracord.

If it were mine, I would cover its head with a dark cloth, hold it in my lap firmly with my forearm using that same hand to hold its head just at the beak and covering its eyes further. That way I could use my thumb and forefinger to help hold open its beak if needed and use the other hand to...

Y'all look great! Now he doesn't have to (and can't) hide behind you anymore when the camera is out. Keep the progress steady. I'm proud of y'all and almost to the point of being inspired! Also, I love the duck picture and how it shows the older ones grouping up to check out what's going on...

    Sapphire Gems gender?

My guess is that the seller was off by 10% on one and 90% on the other. They look so different that being sex-linked one would be a cockerel and the other a pullet. But since I'm only guessing, I give myself a 50% chance of being wrong.

Nesting boxes are ready, are the chickens?

They almost always will lay in the boxes without any encouragement. There is no need for fake eggs. I occasionally have a lazy bird that just lays wherever she happens to be when she gets the urge instead of making the trip to the nest box.

Is this what a duck's first egg would look like?

My friend is always pranking his wife with potatoes, creek rocks, plastic eggs, whatever he can find. She's actually been fooled a few times. Don't worry though, he's in Georgia, not Texas.

    Just like humans

Have these chicks passed away? (Inside egg)

Maybe she wouldn't come back to he nest because she knew the eggs were no longer viable. My broodies have instincts that I can't match.

How about "Don't spur the woman who keeps you from becoming dinner!" Those 2 would have already been welcomed to Sunday dinner if I had my way!

    Rooster behavior

My wife has trouble with a couple of our roosters but most are quite peaceful around her. For some reason, the aggressive ones try to attack her shoes or boots and will occasionally go after her hand if she reaches down while in their coops. She has found the most effective way to deal with...

How long can I keep collecting eggs to put under a broody hen?

All raised in the brooder due to pens being chainlink fencing and didn't want to have them get away from broody. Otherwise, I'd have tried putting them all back when the last one hatched.
