I have a RIR/EE mix. She's the biggest in my flock, my friend has some bantam eggs that I really want but they are so teeny tiny I'm worried shell crush newly hatched chicks. Will she be fine or should I try and find her some bigger eggs?
Mystery is solved! I haven’t seen her in them nesting box yet but it has to be the EE mix! I caught my cream legbar mix in the nesting box with this pretty tan/peachy egg
I got almost a full day of eggs today! Just need my cream legbar to lay me a pretty blue egg!
So today I’m even more confused! Didn’t catch the new layer in there But I found this egg! Green yesterday grey today! Same chicken or is this the legbar cross? Same shape and size but different colour so I’m thinking it has to be the legbar mix and the green was the EE mix?? Bc a chicken always...
Sorry! Not sure why I didn’t think of posting pics of them.
So first the leash likely in my opinion, Hawk. I’m thinking if she does lay green like the lady said she might it wouldn’t be a dark olive but it could vary we’ll be plain brown.
Then there is my cream leg bar (non crested) Ivory...
I have 6 pullets in my mini flock of 7. Just over a month ago the first started laying! Today I discovered 4 are now laying. White is my leghorn, one brown one is my red sexlink, other is my splash maran, this is her third egg. This beautiful green one speckled with green gray spots is the...
We got our puppy just before my twins turned two and they’ve never hit/kicked/or pulled on the dog. I’ve made sure to stress the issue of nice touches and how to properly pet the dog. If they started getting rough they weren’t allowed near the puppy. For the first few months the puppy was always...
Two nights in a row I found one of my splash marans in hay as tall as me just laying there not wanting to go into the coop for some odd reason. I wouldn’t give up hope yet but take a look around! Took me an hour the second night to find her!
That’s one thing in the reply on the other post that’s bugging me. Before the nesting boxes were always sooo clean they never pooped in there no specks of poop on my eggs. The last few days I’m having to wash the poop off and clean the boxes everyday to try and keep the poop out of there
Ahhhh I didn’t realize my flashlight would ruin it. It’s well away from the house so it’s pitch black over there but I’ll try dimming my phone light to see if that works. And when it stops raining I’ll install a flip thing like on the other post. Looks simple to put in and I have hinges...
The coop is 8 feet long so there is two 8 foot long roosts and then two going across them. So with 7 birds they’d have well over two feet of roost space just between the two long ones.
She’s not the only one laying. I had a white leghorn start laying almost two weeks before her. And my splash...
I’ll try blocking off the nesting box tomorrow night thanks! There’s definitely enough roosting space, my coop is big enough for 12 Chickens to comfortably live and I currently have 7. There’s 4 roosting bars in there (two long and two short) and if they all piled up on one they would fit...
is it possible for Chickens to go broody only at night? My red sexlink has been sleeping in the nesting box all poofed up for a few nights now. She’s been sleeping on the roost ever since I moved her into the coop so I don’t know why she’s sleeping in there now. She’s only been laying for a few...
I thought that they went through a few jouvenile moults before reaching maturity and then one adult moult before starting on the annual molts. This is my first flock though so I'm still learning.
He seems perfectly healthy so I'm not too concerned.
I'm just trying to figure out what it is! I...
So I wasn't able to get a picture up close if him but one of my cockerels (white chantceler) about 14-16 weeks old is loosing feathers on his head. They look yellowish. I caught him when letting him out this morning and it doesn't look like there is anything on the base of them (I've seen pics...
I was just googling when I could start looking for eggs from my EE mix pullet and one of the links said silkies are slow to start laying eggs, it could take up to a year
So today while giving the chickens some treats I noticed my EE/RIR mix her comb is definitely turning red! Checked the calendar and she's 16 weeks old.. so I'm thinking she'll hopefully be laying by the end of September?
The lasts pic is a few days ago, it's hard to see her comb but it was deff...
so I think a few of you were right about hawk, this morning when I let them out she still had her weird tail but this evening she's looking very pullet! So glad you guys convinced me to give them more time! Cadbury on the other hand I think is working up to a crow
