Well the egg hatched in the middle of the night. He's ( or she) is very lively and happy! The injured one was doing ok last night and early this morning, but now is very lethargic.
edit: The injured guy didn't end up making it sadly.
That was more or less my plan with the injured guy, either that or sleep in the recliner with him in my shirt😆 I know you can use Neosporin on them but all I have is the kind with pain relief, is that ok? Or is it no good for them?
We are in Florida, so the air is pretty humid on its own (house...
So normally we let our hens do the hatching and raising, this mama doesn't seem so great though. Eggs started pipping this morning. We've checked on them periodically throughout the day without much action. Well this evening I went out to check and saw a chick out of the nest face down, I...
I had thought about doing that. It wouldn't be able to fit in the coop but I could fit it in the run. I was just concerned that mama would want to get out and be with the flock and wouldn't be able to. Do you think that would be an issue?
So we had only one chick just hatch today. Mama seems to be doing a good job but another one of our hens grabbed the chick by it's foot and ran around with it planning to probably eat it? It's the same way she acts when she gets a frog so that's my assumption. I was hoping to be able to just...
Your running with some irrational fear of roosters that I may or may not have or that anyone may or may not have. . When in all reality, the boy was standing there mean mugging me behind his little fence🤣 when I'm trying to come and feed him with my girls standing there, and I'm thinking ...
Incase anyone is wondering. The rooster problem has already been solved. I will say, to the one mocking the "fear" I think that your interpretation of being afraid to go into the coop and mine may be very different. I've had sweet roos before and this boy was not being one. The reason to that...
I've had some before that were great. And this was when the children were even younger. They were mostly all boys that were born in our flock. Our first one that was given to us...if I'm remembering correctly, was the first offender. Ultimately I'm going to attempt to trade with the guy for a...
Thankyou very much for the info. That was actually one of the main things i was wondering. Sure I could train him to respect me, but then what about the girls. Pretty sure I know what needs done, so thankyou. Hopefully I'll be able to find a polite boy soon. I'm pretty sure she did not do...
Yea, it was more or less like a small toddler over the diaper hey cut that out kind of pat. So that may be how he felt about it. It was more like an automatic reaction than a thought out response to be honest 😂 sobpossibly did more harm then good. Because it wasnt until AFTER that he attacked...
Thankyou, I will definately check the articles out...so would you say that my responses to him are what caused the aggression? Because that was something I was wondering about?
We want him for breeding. Thats why we have him. I've always liked it best when mama does the chick raising. If this guy cant cut it out then we will try another.
