So normally we let our hens do the hatching and raising, this mama doesn't seem so great though. Eggs started pipping this morning. We've checked on them periodically throughout the day without much action. Well this evening I went out to check and saw a chick out of the nest face down, I assumed it was dead...but it wasn't. Picked it up, freezing cold poor thing, and it's got a raw spot on its back and it's leg seems injured. I didn't see much of the shell left in the nest so I'm assuming someone ate it? Maybe pulled the chick out to soon? Idk.
It's chirping like crazy now and warmed up but I'm not sure what to do with it's wound. It can't stand because of the injured leg and it's poor back looks painful. Mama doesn't seem to want it back. There's also another egg that had pipped, chick is chirping and wiggling but the egg got crushed and now has cracks all around. I don't have an incubator. I do have a heat lamp but I don't think that would be good for the unhatched chick. We've just been holding them both all evening. Mama seems pretty useless unfortunately almost dangerous, just a bad broody I guess.
If anyone has some ideas of what we can do with these guys through the night, I'd really really appreciate it! (Hopefully I put this in the right place! If not I'm sorry!)

Setup a small brooder if possible. A shoebox for example. Have the heat lamp on for the injured chick. I’d try to keep the chick in a dark place to ease stress. As for the unhatched chick I’m really not sure. Between balancing temperature and humidity it’ll be tricky.

That was more or less my plan with the injured guy, either that or sleep in the recliner with him in my shirt😆 I know you can use Neosporin on them but all I have is the kind with pain relief, is that ok? Or is it no good for them?
We are in Florida, so the air is pretty humid on its own (house windows are open) but it's chilly this evening and I'm sure the heat lamp will dry the air out to much for the egg. I was thinking maybe a bowl of water directly under it might atleast help? I have no idea either.

I’m not sure about the pain relief. I know people say not to use it but I’m not sure if it’s a no go.
As far as the bowl of water with the heat lamp I think that would be your best bet.

Thanks for the insight! We'll give it a go and see how we get through the night.
