And then there was the time a bunch of us kids obtained a giant appliance box in the middle of a snowy winter.
We tied together our small fleet of flexible flyers in a sort of a train and tied the box to the top of the array of sleds ... closed end up front. Piled in through the back with...
She sure sounds broody to me. They'll pluck their own breast feathers out when going broody to create a 'brood patch' for warmer skin to egg contact. The growling and puffing up all sound natural broodiness to me too.
Someday ....
Many years from now ...
When folks are feeling sentimental, they'll start waxing poetic about the 'good old days' and talk about how great it was to talk nostalgia on BYC ;)
You need two Guinni (plural for Guinness) ... one for you and one for the flock ... aren't there endless articles about the benefits of fermented grains and/or hops all over these boards? ;)
If you pour two Guinni and then discover they are not interested, I figure a Guinness in each hand...
I was going to comment that reading it backwards would be a tale of a man who gets DUMBER about the care of his chickens, but I realized that I can't prove that to be true! I seem to hold onto ignorance as if it were a virtue!
It's scientific. There is a ratio that determines a chicken's likelihood of tasting this or that. It is directly measured as an inverse to your desire for them NOT to taste a particular thing.
As far as I know, there is nothing damaging to the eyes with an eclipse unless you're trying to look at it. Animals tend not to do this. Just to be sure, I went looking for more info and none was to be found ... if you have a source for a health rise in this PLEASE SHARE!
Now, last eclipse I...
I don't show my birds, but LOVE my australorps ... following to hear what folks say!
Question: they're a fine looking heritage breed, why wouldn't they make good show birds?
Doing well, in fact! She's trimmed down a little and is perkier :D still have to contend with overdue hoof trimming, but got some good advice on the subject just today :D
In my small yard and small flock ... they get a little grit around the soil and all ... I spread around chick sized grit when babies are being raised ... but when I see the hens congregating in the stony/gravelly driveway, I figure they're 'at the dentist'
Take a couple of their actual eggs ... after dark, put them I the nesting boxes so they are there in the morning. You might also try some nesting herbs.
Chicks are messy eaters and will leave the pulverized powdery bits behind. At one week, they are old enough to introduce some treats ... put out a little yogurt, possibly with some bits of banana stirred in ... if you feel you want to us some of the powder to ensure they are still getting enough...
I love my chickens, but they are DEFINATELY out of the house pets! They have their own apartment I the yard and I figure if they lived inside with us, they would raid the fridge, run up the electric bill, and constantly rent on-demand movies!
When one is sick or injured, she DOES get to spend...
Having been a wood worker for many years with an inadequate dust collection system, I'd say DON'T DO IT. yes, the absorbency would be there, but the fine particles fro the dust would do a bad number on their respiratory. I know it didn't do too good on mine! Smallest I would even consider might...
Yeah, I reckon it's gonna be a big upheaval. I say do it as quickly as possible. As soon as the pullets are old enough to mix in and hold their own, cull the birds, then add in the pullets. Better they sort out one big mess than a continuous stream of little messes.
