Not sure about Ohio, but here in Indiana it is legal for property owners to shoot nuisance coyotes. As long as other ordinances do not preclude it. My neighbors and I keep the coyote population tamped down pretty good. We have had a good resurgence in the populations of rabbits and...
We added another block after this picture was taken. I noticed that the girls were dragging crumble out of the feeder. Added a 2" block and it seems to be the perfect height.
I am trying to plan on how to water our ducks and chickens inside the coop in the winter. I like the horizontal watering nipples for the chickens, but I don't think that the ducks will use it. The ducks are so messy, I don't want a big bowl for them to splash in. Any suggestions?
I wanted to build a shallow depth feeder that I could put against the wall of the coop to protect it from the weather. I remembered a container for holding charcoal briquettes at the home center and decided to make one out of it. It is designed to keep charcoal dry while sitting beside your...
We came home a couple hours after dark and went to close up the coop. My daughter counted the flock and noticed that one was missing. This girl (easteregger) had gotten into a habbit of jumping the fence, so we got out the flashlights and looked for her, to no avail. I said that hopefully...
I would like to have more than 10 posts per page. Like 100/page. It takes forever to switch pages with my slow internet, so more posts per page works better for me. I am on other boards that this is a setting under your account.
Thanks!
Scott
Did you "home" them in the coop for several days before releasing them into the run? Then they look at the coop as their familiar safe space and will return at night.
NorthTexasWink, I agree about the Ameraucanas. Both Rural King and Ideal called their birds Ameraucanas. But according to this site, they are both brown easter eggers. I am only having them for a backyard flock, so it really doesn't matter.
You can also just toenail the rafters into a double top plate. Hurricaine ties are designed to keep the roof rafters tied to the walls in high winds. This only works well when the walls are tied to the ground, otherwise the whole thing can blow away.
Excellent! I purchased from them to be able to get pullet rouen ducks instead of the straight run ducks from the farm store. I also bought a few more pullet chicks to round out the flock and take up some more space in the box. One duck didn't thrive after shipping and died, but they promptly...
do chickens like to nest lower to the ground or higher? I have the nest boxes about 24" above the ground so that the ducks can nest under them. I currently only have two layers of my 10 hens because they aren't old enough yet. One will lay in the nesting box. The other lays on top of a bale...
Hi all, new member Scott here. We have a completely confusing bird situation.
My family are new to chicken husbandry and are looking to learn and share. We have two flocks based on age. We started with our older flock as chicks from Rural King back in February. It contained 2 Isa Brown, 2...
