    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I watched the Back to Eden film, now I'm thinking of dumping 6 inches to a foot of wood chips in my run.

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi! My run is about 13x5 feet, would you consider that a small space? I'm wondering if I should cover the rest of the run so I can do deep litter. My coop is 4x8, located inside our backyard shed, and I'm not planning on doing deep litter in there.

So in your outdoor uncovered run that you put straw down in the winter, would you consider that deep litter?

    Ground cover for duck/chicken run

It is a kind of succulent called Sedum. It is a ground cover. I have it in a few pots and even if parts of it breaks off and fall into the dirt on the ground it starts growing there! Very hardy plant. I've purchased mine at Home Depot etc.

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi Washingtonians! I'm trying to figure out if I can do deep litter here on the rainy west side of Washington. My run is half covered, deep gravel flooring. Drainage is good, concerned about deep litter getting too wet, slimy, and stinky. And if I do decide to try DL, what kind of chicken proof...

Bedding advice for run in wetlands?

Like quotha3, this has been my #1 question regarding deep litter: Will it work in a partially covered run that gets a lot of rain? I live in the rainy PNW so it is definitely a concern. Worried it will become a huge stinky slimy mess. My run currently has a deep layer of gravel so it drains...

FINALLY a first egg, and a converted husband!

Question: So when does a pullet become a mature hen? I though it was when they laid their first egg? Or is it defined by something else like age?

Pullets and cockerels can be sexed here!!!!!!

Last 2. Both 12 ish weeks, guessing RIR's, hoping for pullets! They are identical in comb/wattles with hardly any red development. Only difference I can see is one has a really downturned rump section. Am not sure if that means different gender or natural variation?! My kids call the weird rump...

Pullets and cockerels can be sexed here!!!!!!

Is this an EE? Hatched in my daughters classroom, about 12 weeks old, so don't know breed. Rooster or hen? Hoping not a rooster, we aren't allowed to have them in our city!

    Hi! New Chicken Flock owner!

I might have to do that, our older chicks are 10 weeks old, and I need to know if they are pullets or Roos. We can't have roosters in our city limits!

    Hi! New Chicken Flock owner!

Been lurking awhile, gleaning wonderful bits of advice for caring for our new flock of 7 chickens! 2 RIR's, 10 weeks old 2 Easter eggers (we think), 10 weeks old 3 "Ameracauna".....or Easter eggers, unsure if they are true Ameracaunas or not, 5 weeks old. Currently converting back 1/4 of our...
