I'm looking to purchase hatching eggs from farms in Western Mass. The breed doesn't matter to me and I need them fairly often for a research project so it would seem silly to order them online every time and pay shipping costs. Does anyone have any they would be willing to sell? I do need them...
Has anyone used the OvaScope Egg Candler Light from brinsea with a webcam? In the product description on the website, it says that it can be fitted with a webcam to take video or pictures I presume. Has anyone actually done this and if so what kind of results did you get?
Alternatively (and...
Hi All!
I'm looking for either an incubator that has humidity control integrated into the system already or humidity pumps that would work with the nurture right 360. Has anyone used a pump with the nurture right? Like either of these...
That's good to know! Something a bit more mellow that a Jack Russel might be good because they are a lot! I don't think we would have enough rats to keep one busy all the time and I don't want them to get bored.
Yes I imagine they probably all still have the instinct. I think I will still try to find a working line breeder but it is good to know that it doesn't necessarily have to be a working line because they are very hard to find, especially in New England
That's good to hear that she didn't bother the birds. I would imagine that most dogs (with a few exceptions of course) can be trained to stay away from birds if they are socialized to birds at a young age. My old hound loves to chase chickens, but the foxhound I work with grew up on a farm with...
I am happy to hear more about the JRTs! If I do end up getting one, it will be helpful to know more about them. I don't have a ton of experience with them (or small dogs of any kind) as I mostly work with hunting hounds. But I did have a friend who had a pet JRT who got into everything.
Thank you! So that is one vote for JRTs so far, lol. I just looked up a JRT few breeders on the parent club website and a few listed working JRTs on their website so that may work. Thanks again!
Hello!
I am having a serious rat and mouse problem on my farm and therefore I am considering getting a terrier to help with the rat problem. I have tried other methods of rat removal (cats, poison, plaster of paris, glue traps, electric traps, traps, digging up their nests where I find them...
Normally, I would agree on trying to have as much space as possible inside the coop, but I have 2 issues, one, my new coop is going to be pretty far away from our feed/tool shed so it will be easier to keep chicken stuff closer by, and two, I actually have space for a really big run in this new...
In the summer, they will also space themselves further apart on the bars than they do in the winter because of the heat so more space is always better. If they get cold in the winter, they will cuddle closer together. I have also had birds that will sleep (and poop) in nesting boxes if they...
I would probably recommend more ventilation and if you can, two larger vents across from each other. I had a coop that had a really big wire ventilation hole in the door and in the winter I screwed some plastic over it and the birds were fine in the winter. So you could always cover the larger...
Also I just saw this post about the witchita coop https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/whichita-chicken-mansion.1381083/ that says there were not much in the way of directions, so this might be a bit hard for your first project, but they might be able to advise you!
Wood can be a bit pricey, but I have found that getting wood and then cutting it down to the right size is cheaper. But it is harder if you don't have the right tools (sawing by hand can be exhausting!). I think if you take your time and be careful assembling it, you will probably end up with a...
