It’s really good stuff. I have been using it still, but I haven’t been giving it to my hens. Only the Chick Boost for the chicks when I bring them home, every day for the first several weeks to give them an extra boost of good stuff to help them along. One scoop mixed with water per one of...
Thank you all. Such creative names! Keeping with the theme I had in mind, I think I'm going to go with Sandy. I really appreciate everyone who has responded, you all are awesome! :thumbsup
Wow what creative and amazing suggestions. Thank you so much, you guys are awesome! I have to do some serious decision making, there's so many good ones. 🤔
I am getting three new Barred Rock chicks. I've come up with two names; Roxy ( Rock-sy ), and Pebbles. I need help with a name for the third. Thank you. :D
I have a 5 year old Production Red hen, Cinnamon, who has just started becoming aggressive toward me this past year. It's not all the time, mainly when I go out to give all the chickens treats. If she sees my hand is empty it's like she gets mad and tries to flog me like a rooster, then runs...
It may be failure to thrive. However I did have a black Australorp, who did not grow like the rest of the other chicks. She was half their size. We named her ‘Minnie’. She eventually caught up. She’s the same size as the others now.
Sometimes it’s not necessarily anything you are doing, sometimes it just depends on the breed. Production breeds are more prone to reproductive issues, whereas heritage breeds are not as often. I losf two production reds in the past year to EYP and now I have a third one starting the same...
Glad to her your girl is better. I’ve lost two Production Reds last year due to EYP. And I have another one that I just discovered last week starting up with the same symptoms as well; ascitis, lash eggs… etc. I agree with holisticlivings post, Heritage breeds for me from now on as well...
I would have to say australorps. They have a wonderful temperament, they are so sweet. Great egg production. And they have beautiful coloring, in sunlight their black feathers have a green sheen to them.
Thank you.
They all actually go inside the coup at night. Their door is on a timer.
So I’m confused what happened with this one, only thing I can think of was that the raccoon was out just prior to sundown or was out soon after sun up. Either that ,or this hen just didn’t go inside the...
Thank you. I was originally thinking it had happened during the day and it was a hawk because of the neck being stripped. But then the chest is opened and the head is gone, so I then wasn't sure if a hawk would have done all that. Last time I was there was Friday.
They have an automatic coup...
My mother in law is out of town so I’ve been checking in on her girls. Came over this morning to find one of her hens like this. Head is gone and chest has been opened up. There are feathers all over, next to her. Pic attached. What killed her? Hawk? Raccoon?
She pulled through. She’s back with her flock now. The scab finally came off a couple of days ago revealing beautiful pink skin underneath. Now just hoping all those feathers grow back when she molts this fall. Thank you so much for thinking of her. :)
