I'm in the same position, my broody has 7 chicks which are 3 weeks old, she abandoned the last egg half way through hatching so I'm now rearing it in the house, I put her into the pen yesterday with mum and all the other chicks, everything was fine for about 15mins and then out of nowhere my...
Yeeeaaayyy, thank you soooo much, a little hope is good!! I'm keeping everything crossed because as you can imagine she's more special to me than the others who are being reared by my broody!!!
Oh noooooo!!! Not what I wanted to hear!!! He was abandoned by my broody with shell still round his head, when I found him he was freezing cold and lifeless so I thought he was dead but he moved ever so slightly when I lifted him so I brought him into the house, warmed him up, massaged him and...
Can anyone help? Is this little dude a boy or a girl, it's definitely got the defined chipmunk stripe but worried about yellow spot on head, he/she is 12 days old??? I'm sure you all know what I 'want' the answer to be lol???
hey everyone! I have managed to rehome my 'fairly' aggressive Rooster, problem is I haven't handled him since he came a couple months ago, he's about 6 months old.....anyone one got any tips on how to catch him to put in a box for transport to his new home?
Thank you, I haven't put her back in the brooder yet, she's in the house with me, when she's not in a wee box with a hot water bottle she's snuggling with me, is that ok, have you ever done this before? I just think she's still too weak and won't do well with the others!
Hi everyone, my broody has hatched 7 healthy chicks over the last 3 days, last night there was only one egg left to hatch and it was pipping. I checked this morning and my broody had moved to another nesting box leaving the chick on its own with shell still on its head, it was lifeless and...
Hey everyone, I have a hen sitting on eggs which should be ready to hatch within the next couple of days...exciting!!! I can only seem to find articles where people are incubating and hatching their own, I'm hoping mummy will do all the work but would like some advice, does anyone have any links...
I checked her feet earlier and could see nothing obvious, I'll see how she is tomorrow....it's guite strange! Thank you though, good to know about chicken socks :-)
I just recently got a light Sussex and a black Minorca, they've been with me 2 days, I believe they are both approx 22-26 weeks old. For the first day I kept them in a small coop with a small run but today I've allowed them to roam about a pen approx 15'x15' and I've noticed that the Minorca is...
The fact is, whether or not you're rearing a rooster, hen, cat, dog or a hamster....they are wild animals and are driven by instinct, we, as humans, need to respect that and adapt accordingly....we will NEVER be able to trust any of them 100%....we can only do our best!
I know, I'm sooooo disappointed, he's such a gorgeous boy and they were only got to be pets, my hens are just lovely and are never too far away from me so I think I may put the notion of a rooster out of my head! On the plus side one of my girls is broody and I've managed to place 10 fertile...
He was hand reared by an 11yr old who breeds them as a hobby but he had to rehome him because he already had a rooster and the 2 were fighting. When I say he attacked me he didn't actually come at me with his claws he grabbed the back of my leg as he would with his ladies when he's trying to...
Yeah, problem is that he's not in a run, they free range round the back of my house and in a big field out the back so potentially he can come at anyone from anywhere. From what I've said do you think his behaviour was aggression or was he just treating me like one of his hens, he's not vicious...
