    Obviously not a chicken...what is it?! (Warning..photo)

The bird was taken out to the bush quite a distance from the house, something else will deal with it...without coming to my yard! :)

    Obviously not a chicken...what is it?! (Warning..photo)

Thank you everyone, it seems to be the bobwhite quail. I am up in canada, the hunt club right across the road releases pheasants and these quail, who INSIST on coming into the dog run and usually hiding in the trees. Fair game when the birds have 100s of acres to venture, but insist on being in...

    Obviously not a chicken...what is it?! (Warning..photo)

Interesting. We have had several pass through the property, and I've been quite curious. The beak looks like a bird of prey which threw me off I suppose with the hunt club across the road raising and releasing them (whatever it is), I should be sure to do a good walk through the yard to be...

    Obviously not a chicken...what is it?! (Warning..photo)

I need some help identifying this bird that the dog caught in the yard. I think it might be a pheasant or some other game bird, but I'm clueless. Any ideas? (The dog catching birds in the yard is frowned upon, however, she was unsupervised in her own territory so my fault.)

What were your worst mistakes when you first started?

Make sure you have a secure coop and lock them up every single night, and know that sometimes you will have to cull a bird (rehome, freezer, new coop whatever your "cull" is). We had a hen that was horrible and bullied our other chickens. One night she wouldnt let them in the coop, so they flew...

    Coop or freezer camp

Thanks for the opinions! I know it's a little early to tell, but I'm hoping to clear the roos to make room for some new birds. Out of 10 straight run chicks, I have 1 pullet I'm pretty sure of, 7 that are definite roos, and these 2 mystery birds

Any guesses for these two? The white one is the smallest of the entire flock, hatched the same day as the others but is about 3/4 the others. Has a peacomb, but is very pale. Black bird has a peacomb, but it hasn't developed like my other roos (whose combs are much larger and red). The last...

Nope! They are naked feet, but are slightly darker than the red sex links feet I have.

    Newbie chicken owner

Hello, New chicken owner from Ontario, CA. Hubby and I finally bought our home with land, so I got my chicks. We started with 5 red sex links, but are down to 4 as one was found by a dog. I made sure to replace that chicken with 2 new chicks though! I swore I wouldn't be a crazy chicken lady...

    What breed are these chicks?

I acquired 2 chicks from a man living in an apartment in our downtown core (yes, where it is illegal to own chickens). Sorry for the bad picture, they are very flighty and fast moving. Wondering what kind they might be?
