Final Update : Doña did not pull through. She died sometime last night. I made sure to bury her by a tree with her head pointed towards the lake in our backyard. That way, she can walk, swim, fly or run her way to where she is needed now most. ♥ I'm happy I got to be her mom for the few, short...
No. Same 4 hens since nearly three years ago. If all of her food does not want to come out, should I let her rest and try again in the morning? What's left is a small mass of food, it appears.
UPDATE : Tried massaging her crop after feeding her 2 tsps of coconut oil. It drained! Not completely, it seems. What does an empty crop feel like? If her crop was full and hard, does this mean she had an impacted crop? If so, what are my next steps?
UPDATE : I set her down to fix her makeshift home and when I come back inside to retrieve her, she has fallen over to the side with one leg outstretched. About 20 minutes ago, I gave her scrambled eggs and apples and when she was hurrying towards me, she tipped over with one wing outstretched...
Her crop was hard when I checked this morning. She has a tad bit more energy this morning. Green diarrhea from last night. White, liquidy poop again this morning. Waiting on the shipment of booster vitamins to arrive tomorrow.
Attached is a picture of the antibiotic. It's from a Spanish pharmacy.
Ampicillin at 0.05 ml every 24 hours. I will check now to see if her crop has emptied and update accordingly. Also, her abdomen for signs of discomfort.
Is there a ratio for mixing in the cranberry juice? I'm assuming this can also be overdone if not given correctly. On that note, can electrolytes be given, as well? What kind of meat would you recommend? Will anything go?
The antibiotic is Ampicillin. The dosage has been around 0.05 ml every 24...
Hello, everyone! Back again with a question in regards to the big, beautiful, black-feathered Doña.
Recently, this particular hen of mine has not been moving nearly as much as she used to. She will run towards me when I call my flock for treats if, and when, she is very far away but otherwise...
These past few days (thinking around since three days ago) my hen has been going around with a massive diarrhea attack. Now, it seems that her comb is turning white in certain areas. Attached are pictures of this.
I believe the diarrhea can best be attributed to the raw rice she has been...
Quite alright! My anxious self made a number of posts and did a lot of research so I eventually found the answers I was looking for.
Thank you so much for checking in on Doña's health! I am ecstatic to announce that she has undergone a marvelous recovery. No scarring. Tail feathers growing...
Layer pellets. She has both oyster shells and crushed up egg shells offered to her. I know she'll take nibbles out of the crushed up egg shells but not quite sure any of my hens go for the oyster shells. I'll keep an eye out on her in the coming days. Thank you.
