I have 4 chickens (one leghorn, one ISA brown, one barred rock, and one australorp) that need a new home. My chickens are not housed in my backyard, but at the barn where I board my horses. However, I just started a new job and do not have the time to go check on them everyday or even every...
Thank you for all the information. I do not think it is mushy chick because it looks nothing like that. She just has a swollen belly, but it's not hot or anything like that. She is still eating and drinking and playing like she has since she got better. She has a muscular issue, she is very...
I have a very young chick, less then 3 weeks old, that is having these symptoms. She's walking with her tail down and has a squishy, distended underside. When I pick her up and press on it she doesn't give any indication that it hurts her. And everything I've read says it's most likely that...
I mean it's such a mild case. She can stand normally, just if she's on her feet for too long than it goes to the side more. And when she lays down her leg also goes to the side. But she can still eat and drink and run and play.
And I want to get her at least one friend I just don't want her to...
So I recently brought a Black Australorp baby home from work. She has what I would describe as a very mild case of splay leg. She is still able to get around, albeit not as gracefully as other chicks. She is still eating and drinking fine. I started her on a leg brace made of vet wrap to help...
It's definitely tough and some passing's are harder then others but I know if I don't do it no one else will. It's emotionally draining but it's also rewarding.
I actually don't. I work somewhere that sells chicks a few times a year and I take the sick ones that no one will buy home with me. I try my best to bring them back to health but when I can't, I bury them and mourn. They were the two that I ended up with so far this chick cycle. Hoping for no more.
Sorry I misspoke I meant to say B2.
Unfortunately she passed at about three this morning. It's very upsetting but at least she is in a place were her legs are no longer a problem for her.
Thanks for all the advice anyway.
Hi so I wanted to update you all on Maia's condition (I named her Maia because it means brave warrior and she's a fighter I can tell). Anyway, I started her on a b12 supplement and she seems to be a little more lively after I give it to her. Don't know if that means anything or not. I also tried...
Thanks! Would vet wrap work? I don't want the tape to stick to her skin. And I read it's okay to give them yogurt? I'm just trying to think of something high in calories that I can measure to make sure she's eating enough. Or should I make a mash with starter instead?
Hi,
So I'm new here but I have a Cuckoo Maran chick that has leg issues. Below are some pictures of her. Her legs are kinda crooked in and she holds them really close to her body. On top of that her feet do not straighten out. I am able to manually spread her toes but they go back as soon as I...
