Welcome to Backyard Chickens. I'm a newbie also. I live in South Arkansas in El Dorado. I have 2 Easter egger's (over a year old & 1 has a scissor beak). 1 buff Orpington, 3 golden Wyandotte that are 9 weeks old. They are now ready to merge with the other 2.

well I got a big surprise last week, there were 2 eggs in the nest. My scissor beak pullet (copper & black) who I have been hand feeding since last July, (she was starving), finally started laying for the time. My other Easter eager started laying again, had a couple of months completely...
I've had good luck with 15% layer crumbles & mix with water & other left over. Now she's learned to eat it piled on the grass. Other pullers wouldn't let hen roam with them, now she does.
I make a thick mush with her feed/ water, spinach, etc. she starts eating out of my spoon then I pile it in the grass and she eats all she wants. She was starving before I realized & started hand feeding her.
Hi all. I'm new to BYC. I live in South Arkansas, with my husband. I got my 6 chicks (one week old) May 5, 2017. 3 turned out to be roosters. When they started to crow we had toget rid of them (no roosters in city limits). Our local ASPCA took them left us with 3 hens. They are Easter Eggers...
