    12 week old Blue Andalusian

Bought as a 2 day old Blue Andalusian pullet, I've been suspecting that April may actually be Andy. 🥺 He hasn't crowed or been aggressive, but we're not supposed to have roosters in Anaheim, so I'm hoping for confirmation before I attempt to rehome him. His adoptive mum still babies her 12 week...

Official BYC Poll: What Kind Of Relationship Do Your Dogs & Chickens Have?

Would harm if she could and today she could. Today, 4 month old Toffee (cream legbar) brazenly abandoned her sister in the chicken safe zone, crossed no-man's-land, and flew over the 6 foot wire dog yard fence, seemingly right into the waiting maw of Nymeria, our 11 year old mutt (likely...

More things to do with Black Jack 57?

I grabbed a few $1 paint brushes at the hardware store and just spread it on with those. I learned that if you need to take a break or quit for the day, put the brush in a ziplock bag to keep it moist or you will wind up with very stiff brushes that don't spread smoothly. It does not seem to...

    Avocados For Chickens

My dog used to eat the baby ones that would fall off the tree and dry up to no ill effect. I add the dry fallen leaves to my deep litter with no problem and the chickens scratch around under the avocado tree as often as possible.

    Cracked beak?

Thanks so much you guys! I was just gearing up to go out and trim it. Lo and behold, she has done it herself somehow! It looks much better, like it just has a chip out of it now.

My Delaware, Daisy, appears to have cracked her beak somehow! What can I do for her? Can I trim the piece off or will it hurt her?

    Show off your diy coop!

Yes, the barrel is a community nest. There is a little window as a door in the back to collect the eggs. The curtain is just 2 pieces of green felt attached with Velcro strips so it's removable.

Spring is here, How are YOU cleaning and changing things ??

New bucket feeder that fits into the shady corner: And curtains for the nest barrel: Five chickens were totally fine with a view out the window when laying and they have all layed every single egg in the nest barrel. The sixth chicken had layed every single egg outside wherever she happened...

    Open air coop in California...

    Open air coop in California...

We're in Southern California with just a slightly milder climate. Our coop is very "open air" but with some shade and wind protection. I guess it technically has two sides but the roosts are up under the roof and more protected. Free is good. :D We can get free barrels, so it was a barrel...

Use them all! :wee I used almost all the colors I had in the garage on ours. I read that chickens can see more colors than humans can.
