Prunedale Ca has one of the few feed mills that makes Quail Layer crumble, just swing by LA Hearn feedstore. Also they sell a Peacock starter that's also the perfect Quail starter blend, better than turkey starter. Consider yourself blessed, not everyone has those options.
Oh I didn't know you were talking about button quail, I don't know anything about those or about hatching in the UK.
For here in the USA with coturnix quail it's fairly standard practice to shoot for 45% for the first 14 days and crank it up for lockdown. Usually 65 to 70%c
They do change...
I had the same thing happen. They couldn't break out and perished in their egg right at the end. 47% is fine until lockdown. Crank it up to 70% at lockdown so the egg shells soften up for the unzipping of the eggshell
Do they have a website? Maybe you can check it before you waste expensive gas. That's how I found these feeds. Gas is $6 a gallon for regular gas here on the central coast of CA. People in southern CA are literally crossing into Mexico just to buy gas at $3.70ish a gallon!
They are super friendly, an even offered to let me contact their specialist that designs the feed blends. I wish I could start a large quail farm so I could take advantage of such a valuable resource that others would just love to have close by.
The pheasant I bought was in a 50lb bag, the quail layer feed was only in 25lb when I stopped by. They said they could get some in 50lb bags, or even 2,000 lb bins if I wanted lol.
They are a large feed mill so they will do it however you want. They send huge semi trucks of waterfowl feed they...
Oh an the pheasant starter is supposed to be the best starter they have for quail. They said the turkey starter was fine, but this would be better. It's also a dollar or 2 cheaper than the turkey starter so figured I'd give it a shot as well.
It's $10 for 25 lbs, the regular chicken layer is a little cheaper, but close enough that it doesn't make much of a difference. Bought a bag just to try.

I know this was a few months ago, but in case you or anyone else was interested I found out my local feed mill makes all the somewhat exotic foods for Metzer...
Purina Startena crumbles here for about first six weeks. Then I start mixing it with a lower protein starter, they don't like switching feeds instantly.
About 8 week mark start getting them on a layer crumble for the calcium, fiber, and other nutrients they need to support egg laying.
I looked...
If they are growing, then my understanding you want to shoot for about 28% protein. The ratio you mentioned sounds like it would be well over 30% but math isn't my strong suit. Metzers has feed calculater that might help you.
If they are adults the 24% is plenty of protein and you can just...
Just a quick side note, in the demo he says to separate the water bottle from the stand and carry just the bottle to the water source. That is obviously a salesman that hasn't actually used it the product.
There's no reason to separate it like that unless your doing a deep clean on it. The...
I have tried a few different designs and I really like the Little Giant design. Keeps the water dish up off the ground to prevent them scratching dirt and junk into it so the water stays nice and clean.
Rooster booster is made by the same people that make poultry Booster. Many have used them with good results so it's a quality product. Bit no I have not used either one.
I did my research on vitamin packs years ago, and the one I linked above was best for me as it had the most Niacin for the...
The grit and Oyster shell are not in the feed. They are essential to their diet but only in very small amounts, just like salt is essential in yours. They only eat a tiny bit, that's why it's better not to mix them into their feed.
How's your little chick?
This article was written more from a waterfowl standpoint but they have very similar needs. A lack Niacin (Vitamin B3) causes leg and foot issues in either species.

If your a commercial producer with 1000's of birds that are shoe horned into a tiny space, then yes, vaccines, medicated feeds, and antibiotics are very necessary.
Typically none of those is necessary for a small flock with lots of space. :thumbsup :wee
