Pair of young chickens need new home (South Bay Area, CA)

Hello Backyard Peeps! I'm still fairly quiet here, but here's the situation I've gotten into: 1. I work at a preschool. 2. Someone at the preschool decided "Oh hey let's hatch eggs to show the kids!" 3. I was put in charge of the incubator because I've "had birds before." Apparently parrots...

What do you suggest as boredom breakers?

    Mean 7 week old boy

Thank you everyone for your responses. We've discovered that Nugget, the cockerel, is just a little stir crazy when cooped up - despite that it's a huge upgrade from the brooder. We let him and Fiona have some time exploring the full backyard today, and he was super chill....after figuring out...

    Mean 7 week old boy

Ugh... Well, we'll check with our vet as well. If we were to get a few friends for Fiona, what age would be best? I don't want to stay over with the brooder, and she's probably too young to figure out how to cuddle them for their warmth. But I want them to get along.

    Mean 7 week old boy

We're really hoping we won't have to get rid of him, since I raised him from an egg. And he can be really sweet with us, too. I'm just confused why he's suddenly being such a butt munch.

    Mean 7 week old boy

So, my two chicks are now 7 weeks old and have graduated to a coop... But the one you all voted was male is getting mean to our little girl chick, Fiona. He flaps at her, chases her, and raises his hackles at my husband when he tries to intervene. Fiona is scared of this and will rush out of the...

    Possible rooster? What breed?

Thanks, we're hopeful, too. Our peepers are finally going to the vet to get properly sexed and checked up - though were fairly certain we have a boy and a girl. Our vet does have a bird speciality, so I'm hoping they'll be able to at least give us good options other than freezer camp. He's got...

No roosters allowed in San Jose CA - HELP!

What did you end up doing? I'm in Cambrian as well and have a cockrel who hasn't started crowing yet, but....

    Possible rooster? What breed?

And just because I like showing these guys off, here's Fiona our other baby snuggling up with her Nugget.

    Possible rooster? What breed?

Thanks for the tips! We've checks our local laws and specifically it started that if a rooster is de-crowed that it is okay to keep them in our area. I'm unsure how I feel about that and crow-collars, so hopefully the darker coop will help.

    Possible rooster? What breed?

Thankfully, we live in an unincorporated part of San Jose, so we can have a rooster.... If we can keep him quiet.

    Possible rooster? What breed?

Thanks!! Yeah, we were fairly certain he was a boy. Hopefully he stays friendly though. He's just gorgeous and has a huge personality. This is my first time with chickens, and I was told or hen is an Ameraucana (guessing EE, though).

    Possible rooster? What breed?

They're 5 weeks old in the most recent pics.

    Possible rooster? What breed?

Greetings!! Quick intro: the preschool I work at decided to hatch chickens. Since I used to have parakeets and cockatiels, they decided I was the bird person and should be in charge. Unfortunately, they had no end game in plan and I as such have ended up with two chicks. I'm concerned that I...
