Fox attacked by Chicken - do I crate her, or put her out?

She looks very alert in the photos, that's good. She may not like being crated but she needs a clean environment. After you see healing she can be moved out. Use a 10% Bernadine solution to clean that is one part iodine to 10 parts water. Gentley dab on, if you feel comfortable and the neospone...

Fox attacked by Chicken - do I crate her, or put her out?

I h I would keep her in a clean environment where you can monitor her puncture wounds, if a crate is what you have then use that, just be careful when you take her out for cleaning the wounds. Keep her out of drafts and make sure she is drinking. If you have a large tote and you think she won't...

    What killed my hen?

You said you have cats could they have found the body parts and be dragging them back to play with. After a week it can be difficult to determine whole was the real culprits. Guess I got my right of passage as a chicken owner :(

Hawks love to pin their prey, smaller than a chicken indicates coppers or sharp shinned hawk. A Sharp shinned can dive in the gap easily. Keep the girls in and hope after the ffledglings move on you can give them free time. A dog run is the best idea, you can cover that with wire then cover for...

    WHO KILLED DAISY???? (Graphic photo)

Possums typically break the neck of a victim. Easy to trap and SSS. I dispatch when I see them, I have horses and they carry a protozoal that causes real problems. By the way they will eat each other, so that makes it easier for me. Nasty animals.

Life threatening event and now yellow urates

You have done a wonderful job with your girl, it sounds like the end may be near. Remember these types of hens were bred to lay eggs early and often, you gave a hen 5years of good life. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is let go. Hopefully I don't come across as uncaring. I will treat a hen...

Life threatening event and now yellow urates

I just went back over your first post you have done an outstanding job with your hen. 5 years old is old in chicken world, especially for a high production hen, they always seem to develop reproduction issues for me after the first hard molt. The Mennonites in my area only keep them a year some...

Sorry my phone adds in letters or words I did not mean. Billed out is when chickens sort through their feed looking for the right tidbit. Kind of like Goldilocks.
