Life threatening event and now yellow urates

What a terrifying experience! But your efforts did save her life.

What likely occurred was she had impacted crop, and your massaging the contents probably shifted them to obstruct her airway. If you will recall the manner in which you massaged, was it lower down on the crop or near the top? And how vigorous was the massage?

At any rate, you managed to get her breathing again, and she should be okay.

However, you may not have completely cleared the impacted crop. To be sure you've sufficiently treated the crop disorder, I recommend giving a couple teaspoons of coconut oil in its solid state. It's much easier to give safely without getting any into the airway (which is at the center of the throat). Insert at the right side of the beak so it goes down the right "tube"(which is on the chicken's right side of the throat)

To massage, place your fingers on the fattest part of the crop lower down. Gently massage in a circular and slightly upward motion, careful not to elevate the contents any higher than mid-crop.

You need to monitor the crop in the morning to be sure it has completely emptied. If the crop stubbornly remains full of solid material, you can safely use a stool softener such as Dulcolax.

Once the obstruction has been cleared, feed water and chopped boiled egg. Greek yogurt or probiotics will restore good microbes in the digestive track.

She had 3 to 4 different lethal diseases, so you did well having her euthanized. It has been a good learning experience to read this thread. Please take care.

EggSTOREYdinary, it may be similar but it doesn't necessarily mean your hen is doomed.
I would start a new thread and methodically list all the symptoms and how and when they occurred. Photos and videos are helpful too.
It's important to know what you've tried thus far and how she is.
As a new thread, this will get the attention it deserves if it isn't buried here.
I'll look for it and reply there.

Crop massage, while it's not a cure, can help relieve discomfort. But you need to take care you do the massage in a manner where the hen won't aspirate sour liquid into the airway.

The hen needs to be in an upright position. You need to feel the crop and locate the center, avoiding the top part near the throat. Do the massage very gently, avoiding pushing the content upward toward the hen's throat.

Jonalisa I am so sorry for your loss, you gave your girl your all. Please post all the information about your journey with Charlotte. Can never stop learning. It will be a useful Learning tool for all chicken lovers. It hurts the heart when a loved animal can't be saved, but you tried harder then many would. I have a crazy belief that we will see our pets in heaven, so I extend that thought to you and Charlotte. God bless and tears for you.

My Kourtney passed away a couple of hours ago. My heart is broken. I had only two of my very original flock members (the OGs I called them) left and she was one of them. I massaged her crop for several hours, bathed her and cut the feathers so I could tend to her vent. She eventually was not responding to me and so i rushed her to a vet. They looked at me like a crazy person but they did take her back and tried to get it to pass, she died shortly there after. Totally f^#%king sucks. This is the hardest part of chicken keeping.
