    Whiting True Blues?

Not sure if they're True Blues, as I've never seen them personally, but I'm curious to see over time! I want to add more chickens to our flock within the next year or two and was looking into getting a few True Blues and True Greens, so I'm glad to see someone else asking about them because they...

    Duck Eggs Making Me Sick?

I had seen another post here about how someone had never been allergic to chicken eggs and was allergic to her neighbors, and after trying over and over to figure out what was going on, she found out the neighbors chickens had been picking through and eating their horses alfalfa, and she's...

    Duck Eggs Making Me Sick?

My biggest concern with this entire thing is that my birds are carrying a disease or virus that I can't see. I planned to sell my eggs and now I am very worried to give them to people because I don't want to make them sick, so I'm trying to rule out sick birds to the best of my ability. Does...

    Duck Eggs Making Me Sick?

Okay wow so here we are a few days later and this post has a lot of useful information in it! Here's what I've gathered so far: It's probably not salmonella or a food borne illness in general because the symptoms take hours to set in. Possible mild allergy or just intolerant to them. Now here's...

    Duck Eggs Making Me Sick?

I feel just absolutely squeaky clean trust me :lau We have been keeping them for about 2 weeks maybe? Pretty sure none of ours have lasted longer than that. I've been using water that's more cool than hot because honestly in my brain I though hot sink water would probably partially cook them...

    Duck Eggs Making Me Sick?

We could possibly just have some sort of stomach flu. He is almost never sick though and I usually only get sick from things I eat. If it doesn't go away by tomorrow then we are off to the doctor though! Also, with the egg washing. I had been rinsing them in cold water but had read that it is...

    Duck Eggs Making Me Sick?

Interesting! Luckily we have two chickens as well so we will have other eggs to eat. We planned to sell the majority of our duck eggs anyways. I think the taste of them is amazing compared to chicken eggs, but if they continue to make us sick they may not be worth it. Guess it's time to...

    Duck Eggs Making Me Sick?

I'm not allergic to chicken eggs, but I do know both allergies aren't correlated. I wonder if that's it. I am allergic to a handful of medications, all of which make me sick to my stomach and give me hives. Boyfriend has no allergies so I just thought the odds of both of us being allergic were...

    Duck Eggs Making Me Sick?

(The post ahead might be a little gross and TMI but you've been warned!) We started getting our first duck eggs about a month ago. We (my boyfriend and I) ate them scrambled and in baked goods when we first started getting them. No issues whatsoever. Last week, my boyfriend scrambled a few up...

Preparing for cold cold winter with Pekin Ducks

Posting just to follow this thread! I live in Indiana and we have more harsh winters than people think. Temps last year -10F for about a month, along with one or two ice storms and a few snow storms as well. Our duck house is 4x8 and we have 5 total. I plan to use the deep litter method and a...

    Muscovy Ducks vs. Domestic Ducks

I do have mallard domestic ducks! I was more curious as to why people kept muscovies but after reading more here and online I can see why people would! We don't have room for muscovies but they seem very interesting!

    Muscovy Ducks vs. Domestic Ducks

Title is pretty self explanatory. Just curious as to what the main differences are between muscovies and domestic ducks. I know they look very different and are an entirely different species. Are they primarily meat birds, or do they lay eggs well like some ducks? What are some pros and cons of...

    Silkie wings!

I didn't even think about the rooster tails! They do look tattered as well! That would've been an easy way to answer my question I suppose!

    Silkie wings!

Oh Yeah! She's been a lot of fun! She's our first chicken (we started with ducks this spring) and it's been interesting to say the least! She's been bathed once now and is probably due for another (she's got some crud around her legs and on her back) and didn't seem to mind it a all. She also...

    Silkie wings!

Ah! Thank you! I've always wondered if the 'fancier' show birds had down everywhere, or if they had these weird feathers too!

    Silkie wings!

You can sort of see her scraggly feathers in those pics. When you spread her wings totally out, they're basically down on the half closest to her body, then feathers on the half farthest from her body! She was the ugliest little chick as well; basically just a ball of black skin with clumps of...

    Silkie wings!

Sounds like a weird thread, but I'd like to know what other people's silkies wings look like! Or even pictures! I have a white silkie pullet from Rural King, so she's obviously not fancy quality or anything. She has no crest, but does have blue ears, five toes, and feathery feet! I've never had...

    Breeding Golden 300s

Oops, I missed some replies here! I can say my white layer has more of a pink beak than Pekins do. It's very light with little pigment in it, and her eyes are also a dark blue color! She's a beauty! It was nice to see the photos of the mixed layers! I'm considering getting a Golden male and more...

    Breeding Golden 300s

So true! We even have two runners, a male and a female, and our female is short for a runner and very thin. Our male is the same height but VERY large compared to her. Obviously males are bigger but he looks more like a pekin runner cross! So strange!

    Breeding Golden 300s

Yeah, she's definitely not a male! She quacks and doesn't have a drake feather. She's just big honestly! I guess she doesn't eat more feed specifically, but you never know about bugs and whatnot :lau Truth be told she's probably just a much better forager than the others so she eats a lot that way!
