Yes they free range during the day but they are all together at night and early next day or if I’m not home to watch over them for predators. Great idea! I do have a bird/butterfly garden fenced off in the middle of their free ran area where they could all see each other. And their run is...
I’ve got a broody hen who is at the bottom of the pecking order. She’s a little Cochin and except for one other Chochin, the other ten are regular sized girls. I want to get bantams for her. My town doesn’t allow roos. Wondering if she would be able to defend the babies if I was to sneak...
Ok, today I fed everyone the pumpkin/oatmeal. Not a favorite but she seemed lots better. No labored breaths. Even came running when I tossed out bits of a hotdog roll to them.
Still has diarrhea and some of the others seem to be getting dirty butts as well. Should I still give her the...
80’s but there’s lots of shade in their coop/run area and when she’s out free she goes between sun and shade. Even does a little dust bathing. Not fluffing but picking at the ground.
ok.
Yes, she is eating and drinking too.
I’ll try the pumpkin and oatmeal tomorrow. I sometimes give them leftover cat food. She usually doesn’t get that since she rather have dry oatmeal. I’ll feed her alone to make sure she has some.
I ordered
She stopped eating the oatmeal concoction on her own. When I let her out she slowly ,with lots of stops , went up to the run and ate some regular crumbles that I had dusted with DE. And she drank a lot. Read somewhere to give electrolytes for the diarrhea but haven’t yet. Should I?
Looked in beak as well as I could. Seemed ok. Crop is empty, no lumps. Has had diarrhea too.in fact when I picked her up today she wet my top. She also drinks a lot. Ideas?
Thanks to you. I’ll get some meds from Amazon. I know if they are on this type of med their eggs are not to be eaten. Correct? I felt her crop and there seems to be a hard marble sized thing up at the top. Not sure if this is normal. I’ll check again in the morning and see if the others have...
Thanks for your response. No new chicks. I’m not sure when her last egg was. I know she hasn’t laid for at least 3 days as she was in the cellar. Abdomen seems ok. Will check her crop tomorrow. Should I go ahead and treat with the med now or wait till you can see the video. I’m not...
She’s a year old. Occasionally has been mouth breathing before but now she closes her eyes and sits after walking just a few steps. No avian vet around here works with chickens and cat vet won’t help. Seems to be the only one affected. Being picked on by some of the others. Have been giving...
I’ve been doing this ( talk radio) since the fox attack. The girls only free range while I’m cleaning their coop/run or am right there in the yard with them. As soon as I go out I set up the radio loud and haven’t had any problems since.
Had a fox try taking one of my girls this week. Does talk radio really work in keeping them away? I only free range while I near them, but I was cleaning out the coop when it attacked.
planning on getting my chicks next couple weeks and I want to be ready.
I’ve got the brooder and planning to use paper towels for awhile for their messes. Had chickens before so I’m not a total newbie but that was several years ago. Wondering besides chick starter, can I introduce acv to their...
