YES! The same happened to me...I was all good with it (circle of life...etc)...until one morning I find a dead chook with a mouse tail hanging out of her mouth. She choked on it trying to swallow it whole in a hurry I think, prob the other girls were trying to muscle in on tasty treats too...
Wow - thanks for the info - I hope Im doing the right thing with her - will def make sure no-one bullies her but am very nervous re: egg producing time. Maybe I will take her to the vet, I live rural and my vet is not avarian but may be worth a try xx

Im hoping she good with it too...her comfort is my main concern (not fussed about no eggs if thats the case)...Ill be keeping a real close eye on her - think Im going to have to keep her feathers short in that area so plenty of inspections will be going on (oh Joy! LOL) :)

Wow thanks folks - I had no idea that the quick recedes - so I will just trim away above the quick and keep at it until they a decent length.

I have just received an Isa Brown about 6-7 yrs old, she has very long toenails and her toes are bent because of this. do I cut her nails down past the quick - which will make them decent length, or do I just nip a bit of the end of toenails (up to the quick). She does need a cut past the quick...
