Chicken’s tail all the way down, weak, can’t feel egg

Thanks for the advice. Also YES, beer nuts had the best nachos and the ruination burger was good, but I was much more of a “ruebanation” fan :) They closed a while back and I am still extremely sad about it!!

Chicken’s tail all the way down, weak, can’t feel egg

Ah, I’ve read that egg retention can be caused by general unhappiness with living situation. It is very unlikely that she got into anything in the garage - they are in a penned area, and even if she got out there really isn’t much in there.

Chicken’s tail all the way down, weak, can’t feel egg

They are in a penned area of the garage so I don’t think it’s possible that she got into something. She is still alive and just can’t walk - I am stumped. Physically she seems fine. I’m running the gambit of cures for whatever it could be, it’s so weird.

Chicken’s tail all the way down, weak, can’t feel egg

Hello! I have a three year old black star who as of this evening is having difficulty walking and has her tail all the way down to the ground. I just noticed after work (husband says she was fine this morning.) She did eat some today. I soaked her in an Epsom salt bath as soon as I noticed, and...

    Water Belly treatments

Thanks for responding! I’ve spoken with a vet about her condition, and while she is swollen she’s not quite swollen enough to be drained yet. She has no laying issues so it is likely a liver or heart problem. Her only side effect is the slightly swollen belly - she has no idea anything is wrong...

    Water Belly treatments

Hey everyone! I have a chicken who just developed what I believe is water belly. After some research, I want to try adding some things to her diet. Buuut...aside from knowing brewer’s yeast, eyebright, and oregano are good to try, I’m not really sure how to introduce them. Can I mix all of it in...

How to use brewer’s yeast / oregano / eyebright

Hey everyone! I have a chicken who just developed what I believe is water belly. After some research, I want to try adding some things to her diet. Buuut...aside from knowing brewer’s yeast, eyebright, and oregano are good to try, I’m not really sure how to introduce them. Can I mix all of it in...

    Vent swollen/red

Do you think that I should take her to the vet? I have read a lot of accounts of vets draining the area and tbh I think an avian vet who is more used to pet birds will probably decide to do it. I know from the vet my dog sees that vets are often learning their approaches from the internet too...

    Vent swollen/red

She’s basically the same! Still has some redness and swelling, still acting like nothing in the world is wrong. I have an appointment for an avian vet Saturday in case it gets worse or doesn’t get any better. I know that’s gotta sound crazy to some people, but I figure if it’s water belly I...

    Vent swollen/red

It looked like creepy red scratches to me in the picture and my first thought was that I was going to have to hire an exorcist for my haunted chicken.

    Vent swollen/red

Yes hahaha I got home and actually looked at it and it is totally blue kote. So she’s laying, is the good news! But the belly is still red and swollen, so I’m not quite sure where to go from here other than cutting out treats and keeping an eye on her. If she starts to act sick in any way I’ll...

    Vent swollen/red

Weird update! On my way home to check her out, but the boyf sent me a pic of the very strange egg she laid. What is this all about? Middle one, obviously.

    Vent swollen/red

Thank you everyone! I truly appreciate all of the input. I put some blue kote on her this morning and stuck her back with the other girls. I am working until three, but the boyfriend says he believes she laid - at the very least she came out, sang an egg song, and there was an egg in the nest...

    Vent swollen/red

Yes, absolutely. I think I’ve been giving them WAY too much scratch because I was told to give them lots during the cold - I may be applying that advice way too liberally. Other than that they eat crumbles. In the event that it is a fat issue, is there anything that can be done for her? Also...

    Vent swollen/red

She eats a layer mix from the local farm store, scratch, grit, and oyster shell. Could their scratch be too fatty? Also, general update: she took an epsom salt bath for 30 minutes (which she hated) and the got blow dried (which she loved.) She ate voraciously, and I gave her some extra...

Side note, she is definitely pooping normal healthy poops. In the house, but otherwise totally normal.

    Vent swollen/red

I’ll make sure to get coconut oil on her when she dries. I don’t know how to check for an egg but I can look it up. Any tips? As for the last time she laid...I really can’t say. This is all making me realize we aren’t as mindful with counting our eggs as we should be.

    Vent swollen/red

Okay so chicken soak is happening with mixed results. She seems a little more settled, but we are all very wet right now. However, during the battle of the bath, I was able to snap some photos of her rear. It looks so much worse now that she is all wet. Here’s what I have so far (she is in a...

Bringing her in for my first ever chicken spa experience - sorry the first pictures are so unclear, I’ll follow up with more!

    Vent swollen/red

Hey guys! Just noticed today that one of my girls has some swelling/redness in her vent area. You can only get a good look when she bends over. She is alert, eating, drinking, socializing, and I BELIEVE she is still laying, though I will be able to make certain tomorrow. Not sure what I should...
